Ballycotton '10' winner Siobhan O'Doherty runs 2:45 in Paris Marathon

The Paris Marathon was also on last weekend with over 42,000 runners taking part. One of the most notable Irish performances was that of Siobhan O'Doherty of Borrisokane AC in Tipperary who completed the course in 2h 45m 05s. That equates to an average pace of 6m 18s per mile for 26.2 miles. She was the 13th woman home.

Siobhan won the 2017 Ballycotton 10 mile road race at the start of March in a time of 58m 09s.

This was a new personal best time for Siobhan beating her previous time of 2h 45m 29s which she also set in Paris back in 2011.

Just to give you an idea of just how good a time Siobhan ran, she was just 5 seconds outside the qualifying time of 2:45:00 for the marathon at the IAAF World Championships. This will be held in London in August of 2017 and the qualification period is between 1 January, 2016 and midnight 23 July, 2017.

Brilliant running Siobhán, fair play. Nice to see a local athlete do so well on the international stage.

Well done to Siobhan in those hot conditions, great running. The qualification standard set by Athletics Ireland for the upcoming World championships in London in August is 2:38:00, as of now only 2 Irish girls have the standard. A few more will toe the line in the London Marathon on Aril 23rd. It's 3 to make the time, same as Olympics.

Great running but I can't help thinking that she will be gutted on potentially missing out on the european championships.

We need more athletes like Siobhán O'Doherty. With even better coaching she would be running marathons for Ireland.
