Dennis finished second in the Cork Senior Cross Country Championships in 1952 to Jack Harte (Carigtwohill ) having previously finished second on the Junior championship. He later went on to win senior county cross country medals with Rising Sun AC in 1956, 1958 and 1963. He represented Cork on many occasions during this period.

Please note as far as I can recollect this is not the Denis McCarthy that ran with Rising Sun AC, as I believe that gentleman is deceased with some time.
There were two Dennis McCarthy who were running with Rising Sun one in the 50's who originly ran with Ballineen and later joined Rising Sun The other Dennis McCarthy hailed from The Innishannon area competed in the 60's is dead with some time .
