Cork athletes take top spots in Clonmel Half-Marathon

The annual Half-Marathon in Clonmel was held on Sunday the 14th of August 2016 and attracted a record field of 616 runners, up 6% on last year. This is one of the few half-marathons in Munster that has grown year on year in contrast to a lot of other events which are shrinking.

A very large number of the runners taking part were from Co.Cork with members of Leevale AC dominating the podium placings.

In the women's race, Claire McCarthy of Leevale ran 1:15:10 to set a new course record.

In the mens race, Leevale took the top two spots again with John O'Connell winning in a time of 1:12:18 with Conor McCauley second in 1:13:02.

Thanks to all involved in this race, as always so well organised by Clonmel AC and such value for money. Plenty of water stops and stewards, special thanks to people who gave out the sweets they were so appreciated.

Agree with the above. This was a very well organised race with plenty of water and post race food. Great atmosphere at the finish. The first lady should have been in Rio with that incredible time. We'll done clonmel AC

Fantastic event, second year doing it. Protein milk , Bananas plentiful after, along with loads of water around the course and at the finish line. Terrific value for €25 and the t-shirt and medals top class. I'll be back next year with all the family. Well done Clonmel.
