Results of the Ballycotton 10 mile road race...Sun 3rd Mar 2013

Conditions were almost perfect for this year's Ballycotton 10 mile road race. With dry cool weather, the only thing people had to worry about was a slight breeze. As always, things seem t run very smoothly.....again, the trick was to be there in plenty of time.

At the moment, it's looks as if there were 2,597 finishers, down a fraction on the 2012 figure of 2,617 (2011 = 2382). Note however that the results are still provisional and a few more might be included.

Results......Provisional......HERE (Updated Tues 5th 9am)

shocking race, over priced and too crowed and badly organised. results are all wrong too...but enough about clonakilty, ballycotton was excellent. 2000 plus runners and coaches bananas and mars bars all laid on for 15 quid plus a class mug

first time running ballycotton and somewhat confused about all the hype! nice course and great local support are definite pluses but having to be there 2 hours early is a pain! it was so crowded at start line and for the first mile and half that it was v difficult to get into your stride
although the chip timing at least compensates for that.I think the top 100 finishers tshirts is disgracefully biased against women runners (were there 4 women in the top 100 today? why not top 50 men /women, or weight it according to participation percentages?) Also the pathetic ham sandwiches at race hq were nowhere near the standard of other post race refreshments. I must say Dungarvan 10mile blows this race out of the water, in my humble opinion! (I did enjoy my tea in my mug this evening though!)

Great day as usual. Organisation excellent except for exit from the main carpark. Took far too long and could have done with some stewards organising this.
Well done all.

Hi,
I cannot find myself in any of the photos.....does anyone know if there was a photographer at the finish line? Or can we find photos of ourselves with our bib number? Would appreciate any information.....many thanks

anyone know about finish line photos

there is a lot of hype attached to ballycotton ten and yes it is a long day but the organisers do a great job. as for the t shirts i don't see any bias. if you are good enough you get a t shirt if not you don't. it is the most prestigious 10 miler in the country. as for ham sandwiches, seriously .....

I am in knots about the ham sandwiches.....so funny. I had a ball yesterday. 4th time being fortunate enough being able to take part and loved it. Everything was perfect as per usual. The children handing out the bananas and mars bars at the end were a welcomed site.just one tiny note-it took me 40 minutes to get out of the car park......that was tough......as i said its just a note to take on board. Well done all in bc. A great day.

Sandwiches matter!

I totally agree that this race is hugely over rated! It is a brilliant course to be fair but other than that i dont see the appeal! way too much hassle having to b down there 2 hours early and the facilities left a lot to be desired ie: the "bag drop area", the lack of showering facilities and worst of all the measly ham sandwiches!! wont be rushing back to sign up next yr!!

Age of equality right - women saying that they want equal rights blah blah - oh but can you please split the T shirts in half so that women get some as well.... make up yer mind - do you want to be treated as equals or not!
Anyways well organised as ever - you get alot for your entry fee to be fair. I don't think they could have done much more.

Slower runners starting to close to the front will one day cause a pile up .. good day out ,.. tough wind for last 2 miles... first 100 T shirts make it all worth while .. if you want one .. Train harder..

how can anyone complain about one of the best organised races in the country is beyond me. first time running it, couldn't get over how organised and smooth it was, bus arrived very quickly and was in ballycotton at 12:15, plenty of time. massive crowds at it. was at the start line at 1:15 and started on the button, was crowded, but what do you expect, people don't que in a starting line in an orderly fashion.
organisers like the clonikilty series of races need to learn from this race how how to organise a good race. and all for 15 euro..compared to 45 euro in clon for a 10k(are you having a laugh clon).to be honest, its worth double!!
well done

Loving the misogyny in the comments here! Really, women should be grateful they are allowed to participate at all! A male finishing 96th in his field is awarded a tshirt while a female finishing 5th in her field isn't acknowledged at all. Let's be realistic, there is little chance of even the 'elite' female runners getting into the top 100 when the male contingent is so accomplished, even if they 'train harder', as one commentator suggests. That to me seems unfair, and I'm a male!

Feck it anyways.. didnt go back to the HQ.. missed the sambos... :(
Great race.. the whole point of the top 100 T shirts .. are that they are special. and hard earned.. when the running boom is over .. those T shirts will remain and still be hard to get..
handing them out to slow runners will under value them ...

Had a great day, v well organised race, nicest Mars bar and banana I have ever tasted! Hot tea great to warm up after... and I also cant believe someone so petty as to complain about sandwiches esp as cost of race so low! Love my mug, my 6th one and hope to keep adding to the collection. Huge thanks to the organisers, long may this succussful race continue!

My bib # yesterday was #2517,
Somehow in the results I am down as #2516 running 1.49. I ran 1.32It appears if #2516 ran 1.32 and #2517 ran 1.49.
How can we get this corrected?

This has to be one of the best organised races, considering race starts and ends in a cul de sac in lovely East Cork - don't get me started again about Clon. Again, this is how it should be done. Really tough course, but runs so smoothly. Thanks to all the organisers and volunteers.

I heard someone mention that cars were coming into the car parks after 12 noon and there was no need to be there so early.

What they didn't see what the half-mile tail back as cars queued at that time. The success and smooth running of the car parks owes a lot to all those people who arrived early. If everyone decided en-mass that there was no need to be early then there would be utter chaos.

I understand that there was some issues getting out so maybe that's something the organisers could address next year.

Far play to Eoin Fegan for taking so many excellent photo shots at mile 8.5, and the support and publishing probably every runner that took part in Ballycotton yesterday and putting them on his webpage for all to see.Others only putting up the elites runners and the people they know. AS for the race just a class event in a great location.

I've always been surprised that the village community of Ballycotton haven't looked to make a weekend festival around this race. The atmosphere and event of the Sunday is something special and I expect that people would be prepared to come earlier in the weekend and enjoy the beautiful location etc.
On the event itself, the Ballycotton 10 is consistently the best race event that I've experienced in my years of running. If some minor parts don't suit some people - that's okay, you can't please all the people all the time. I know the vast majority of us were well pleased to be there again for another successful year. Well done to all involved!

Great race and for my first 10 mile an iconic one.
Just 2 suggestions, 1. maybe put the plastic bag and sticky number in the registration envelope 2. for the photographers I know the top 500 racers are the most important but those of us who straggled in the last 500 are actually more likely to buy our photographs as we are often first timers.
love the mug and a well priced race compared to 25 for a 6 mile in limerick!

Many of us travel a day early for the race, so the idea of being put-out for having to arrive two hours early is quite amusing. Have a quick snooze in your car/mini bus, or one of the many dry spots laid on by the organizers.

A race like this is a gift, and I have no issues about travelling 150 miles to run it. Another superb race experience, and one I hope to enjoy as often as possible.

T-shirt comments hilarious! Oh, wait... It wasn't a joke? If your race experience is measured by cakes, t-shirts and ham sandwiches, sign up for a race where you are guaranteed all of the above, and leave Ballycotton for those who participate for the road race.

Not an experienced runner by any means but have done numerous adventure races, triathalons, fun runs, 10k and half marathons and this was probably the best organised of the lot of them. People show up to these things and look to have everything laid on a plate for them. Like ham sandwiches for example. Only complaint is having to be down there so early but a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Ballycotton is a pilgrimage for runners, although a lot has to be endured on the day, where else would a serious runner ( and by that I mean one who is serious about his running) want to be on the first Sunday in March.

there was plenty time to sort out

credit due to john walsh and his team for the huge effort they put in.

Good man John, was wondering how people found the photos. Uploading the other 700 or so at the moment as quickly as my internet connection allows.

This was my 20th Ballycotton on the bounce and I still class myself as a beginner when I look at all the legends who are around since the beginning.

Preperation is everything...I'm not the fastest around but I was still sitting to my dinner at home on the south side of the City at 4oclock.

Congrats to all the BRP gang for another Classic.

yes a great race and thanks to all the volunteers for making it happen. With the narrow roads and cul-de -sac it really is the last place you should try running a race for 2,000 people. I brought my own white bag with my number on it and got to the start a lot quicker- I think they could get everyone to do that.
Maybe they could put 5eur on the entry fee and get a larger marquee and up the food a small bit. The poor ladies making the hang sandwiches were under big pressure and they were only able to put them out one plate at a time. It's such a great race but it is a bit difficult to meet up with people after it in the hall. Oh and the Ballycotton 10 song - that certainly makes me want to get off to a fast start !!

While I'm happy to be in a position to get my hands on a Top 100 t-shirt, perhaps the organisers might consider providing smaller sizes next year. I doubt many, if any, of the skinny top 100 finishers could wear one of the medium or large t-shirts on offer without looking a bit daft!

Minor complaint though, great race!

Disgraceful the amount of people who ignored the ban and choose to wear headphones.Even members of Athletic Clubs are pictured on Facebook wearing them. Rules are rules and if ACs dont encourage their members to obey them ???
