Official and Final Ballycotton 10 results are now out...

The official and final results for this year's Ballycotton 10 are now out. They can be seen HERE

The organisers also issued the following statement...
"2013 BALLYCOTTON ‘10’ OFFICIAL RESULTS
The results are now on the website and show a total of 2,602 finishers, similar to last year. Sergiu Ciobanu’s time has been corrected to 49:18, a two second improvement on 2012. Also, after East Cork were originally declared the team winners, a check-back found that Raheny were first although both clubs finished on the same points total.

Maria McCambridge’s time of 55:01 was only 13 seconds outside the course record she set last year and she can now claim the two fastest times in a race which has been won in the past by likes of Sonia O’Sullivan, Marian Sutton and Karen MacLeod.

There was one category course best; Joan Coyle’s 81:29 knocking over two minutes from Catherine O’Regan’s F65 time.

Unfortunately, a small number of finishers don’t have a chip time but with all such timing systems a certain percentage aren't picked up at the start so therefore don't get a chip time, only a gun time. However, the gun time is always the one recognised for official purposes.

Anyone wishing to see their five-mile splits can do so on the Precision Timing website by just clicking on their name in the results.

Despite our warnings, a tiny minority still persist in transferring numbers – all we’ll say is that we have already been in touch with some of the culprits and further action may follow.

Finally, the traditional result booklet will be out after the weekend and anyone requesting a copy can do so from the contact in the race programme. The booklet will also be freely available at local races over the coming weeks..........Ballycotton Running Promotions"

The old provisional results show 2597 finishers so they have obviously found a few more along the way. Intriguing enough, three of the results that were provisional have now been replaced by question marks. The names matching the numbers can still be seen in the provisional results.

They are 2417, 455 and 1919.

Also several people wearing headphones and Ipods.

Were any of those peoples numbers with-held ?

I have been on to precision timing twice regarding my time which was incorrect (for the second year in a row, think the chip on the shoes were better) but the incorrect time has now appeared on the 'official and final' results. That is pretty dissapointing in my opinion as over 2min difference. I like doing Ballycotton but if I can't get a correct time I won't be back.

Good to see no. 1919 was been caught. He left some amount of abuse on the Ballycotton FB page in the week leading up to the race and the few days afterwards. Hopefully the the lad from west waterford that gave him the number will never get in again!

Hi Tim, Mr 1919 actually was listed in the entries as "Waterford AC" -- a different club.

And yes, he should not be allowed in next year.
Where will this all end?
DNA sampling, fingerprint swipe, retina scan, at entry, start & finish ??

My experience with Precision Timing is that they will fix results, but you have to give them some evidence, and promptly e.g. a finish line photo, which shows you, the person in front, and the person behind, and their times.
These chips are delicate, but disposable. They don't need to collect them after the race. And combining bib+chip makes it hard to wear one but forget the other.

The orange cardboard chip used in Dungarvan 10, and to be used in Mallow 10, is more robust, but still somebody managed to "fold" mine in the post. I hope it still works!

Disappointing to see one of the main clubs in Cork involved in the swapping of numbers.

Your right Donal and I'm sorry West Waterford. Should have said Waterford AC.

What is the problem with iPods? There was an a do-gooder at the start, wearing a cross and chain, gave me jip about having an iPod. I politely informed him that if he didn't stop hassling me I would report him.

The problem with IPODS and head phones is that you cant hear whats going on around you. I was behind some clown around the 5 mile mark running in middle of road and ambulance behind him couldnt get past til some one ran up to him and pulled him out the way.

In a race where the roads are open I can understand why iPods etc arent allowed but in a race where they're closed there shouldn't be a problem. If you wear one ear bud like I do or have them low. I only wear one so I can hear updates from an app I have every mile not for music. What annoys me is the do-gooders

Do-gooders who feel they have to hang people out. Get a life people we're all adults. These are the same people I might add who will point out a man with them on and smile and say hello to a woman. I've seen it. Grow up.

If we are all adults like you say why do you insist in being allowed break the rules of the race. The race clearly stated "no headphones" and explained why.Do you drive your car without insurance too ?
