For the coming weekend, there are three main events to note...
1) On Friday the 13th of April, the Marine Climb 6 mile race takes place in Dungarvan, West Waterford. This is the first race of ten in the Ger Wyley Sports Summer Series. The Marine Climb starts at 7pm and it costs €8 to enter. The race starts in Dungarvan and finishes on a hill to the south-west. It's a good challenge and I'd recommend it. None of the hills are too serious but more of a long constant climb. More details on the Running in Munster blog.
2) On Saturday, Leevale are having their Track and Field Meet at the CIT track in Bishopstown. Even if you are not taking part, it's not every day that you have a quality track and field meet on your doorstep all for the price of €5. It's one thing to watch events on the tv or on YouTube but you don't really appreciate how fast someone is running uless you see it live. One race to really watch out for is 20 year old Ciara Mageean in the 1500 metres. Will she get close to a qualifying time of 4:06? It looks like they will get a record turnout in all events with some of the best athletes taking part. Event details in an earlier post.
3) On Sunday, there is the Great Island 10 mile race in Cobh. More details coming up in a preview next.
