With the 2km lock down in force due to the COVID-19 epidemic, a number of runners in Cork are doing runs in their garden this Easter weekend.

Brian and Eilish Ahern are planning to run a half-marathon in their garden in Bweeng on Easter Monday and are raising funds for Mental Health Ireland.

There are several people in Conna planning to run 10k's in their garden on Easter Saturday and raise funds for Feed the Heroes.

Anyone else interested in doing a run in their garden? Anything from 1km and up?

Do it for your chosen charity or just for fun. Get the kids involved.

The only rules are that it must be at home in your garden and it must be during the Easter weekend from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

Send on details of your run with any photos to johndesmond247 AT gmail DOT com and I'll stick them up on the blog and Facebook.

You can also leave your photos in the comments section of this Facebook post.

Update Thurs 9th April 2020: Pat Walsh Running has very kindly offered two donations of €50 to charity. Just submit your photo of your run in your garden and we will pick out two. Pat will then donate €50 to a charity of your choice!

Well done to Jane Anne O'Sullivan who ran 7.5kms around her house! ..."100 laps of our house....7.5km. Not great for going very fast but super for mental stamina😁"

13-year old Peter Burke did 100 laps of his house and is on target for raising a whopping €1,500 for the Mercy Hospital! Donation Link

In a media interview, his dad David said... "He was hoping to get a fiver off ten family members to bring the total up to €50. That was his original plan but then my daughters put it up on social media and it took off.

He was exhausted. He's fit enough as he plays soccer with Douglas Hall and he's used to running around pitches but not for that kind of distance. I think it was 100 laps of the house, it took him about 40 minutes.

It was fair going as the day was getting warmer as he was getting through it.

We had a few chairs and put up Cork GAA and Cork City flags around the roof. A couple of neighbours were shouting at him over the wall and stuff too, there was a good atmosphere.

He also had music blaring so people walking past stopped to see what was going on."

Thank you to all the above, & others, for absolutely inspirational efforts. This oul guy, with own running problems, usually takes heart from watching Eliud Kipchoge et al doing great things on world stage, but these garden runs are lifting me to a new high. Thank you all & well done. I look forward to crossing paths with you great people at future races/events.
