Runner dies at Dublin Half-Marathon

The Dublin Half-Marathon was held today (Sat 29th Sept 2013) in the Phoenix Park in Dublin and attracted a field of about 5400 runners.

Even though it is a rare occurrence, there was tragically one fatality.

The organisers released the following statement...
The organisers of the Airtricity Dublin Race Series regret to confirm the collapse and subsequent death of a male participant in today's Half Marathon.

The runner collapsed at around the eleven mile mark, and was aided by fellow runners and was attended to by the St. John’s Ambulance medical crew on site. He was then transferred by ambulance to hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and would ask that the family's privacy is respected at this time.

R.I.P to the late runner. Us runners are really a family and is so sad when one of us departs for the great race in the sky, especially in circumstances like this.
