Since he retired from athletics, Usain Bolt has tried out some professional football in Australia. Playing for the Central Coast Mariners, the world's fastest man managed to bag two goals!!

Usain Bolt stumbles at start and still posts the 2nd fastest time in the world this year

In the 100m Men's Final Jamaica Racers Grand Prix on Saturday, Usain Bolt won the race in a time of 9.88 seconds. After stumbling at the start, the world record holder still managed to recover and win the race in what was the second fastest time in the world this year.

It gives an insight in just what kind of condition he is in at the moment as he prepare to defend his title at the Olympics in Rio.

The fastest time this year was set by Jimmy Vicaut of France last weekend when he ran 9.86 seconds, a new European record.

Usain Bolt beats Gatlin again to win 200m Gold

The final of the mens 200m today saw a rematch between Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin once again. With the two of them level at the 100m mar, Bolt used his long stride to pull away over the second 100m to take Gold.

Usain Bolt beat Gatlin to take World Championship 100m title

In what was probably the race of the year, Olympic champion and world record holder Usain Bolt went head to head with Justin Gatlin of the USA who has served two bans for doping. In what was billed as a battle between good and evil, Usain Bolt managed to take Gold in the final of the 100m at the World Championships in Beijing.

Usain Bolt runs 9.87s in London Diamond League...

In the 100m final of the Diamond League Meet in London on Friday, Usain Bolt won in a time of 9.87 seconds.

In the heats, he recorded the exact same time but with a faster reaction time of 0.153 seconds. In the end, he had to work hard at the end to take the win with 5 athletes getting under 10 seconds.

The big question now is if he can beat Justin Gatlin in the World Championships in Beijing in August? Gatlin who has been banned twice for doping has run 9.74, 9.75, 9.75, 9.78 this year already.

Usain Bolt says he will retire after 2016 Olympics in Rio

In an intervew on Wednesday the 4th of September, the worlds fastest man Usain Bolt said that he intends to retire at the top after the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

In the interview, Bolt said this about his retirement....."So far, it is after the Olympics in Rio. I think if I am in great shape, I'll go there and do what I have to do. I think it will be a good time to retire, on top. If I want to be among the greats of (Muhammad) Ali and Pele and all these guys I have to continue dominating until I retire"

On his more immediate plans and his records, he said that breaking his 100m time of 9.58 seconds would be extremely tough but he hoped to improve on his 200m time of 19.19 seconds. He said......"I have learned, I have mastered the art of running the turn. So if I can stay injury free and be in good shape, then it is possible for me to definitely go after the world record."

Bolt won the 100, 200 and 4x100 relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and at last year's London Games. He won the same triple at the 2009 worlds before repeating that feat in Moscow last month.

Usain Bolt won three Gold medals at the World Championships in Moscow recently. This makes him the most decorated athlete in world championship history with eight golds and two silvers. He has six gold medals from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics

Usain Bolt wins Diamond League 100m race in Zurich in 9.90 seconds

After an awful start, the world record holder and Olympic champion Usain Bolt managed to stay ahead of the rest of the field to take first place in the mens 100m at the Diamond League event in Zurich this evening.

Story behind the iconic image of the 2013 World Championships in Moscow...

The day after Usain Bolt won the Gold medal in the mens 100m at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, this photo appeared on newspapers all over the world. Taken just after the finish, it is of course very symbolic with the world's fastest man having the surname Bolt  and then having a bolt of lightning in the background.

Irish sports commentator Will Downing caught up with the photographer Olivier Morin and asked him how he captured the image.

Usain Bolt of Jamaica won the mens 200m at the IAAF World Championships today in Moscow in a time of 19.66 seconds.

This equals the 19th fastest 200m time ever yet Bolt was just cruising at the end.

Usain Bolt wins 100m title at World Championships in Moscow

At the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow, the Olympic champion added the World Championship title to his crown. After being eliminated in 2011 in Daegu, South Korea due to a false start, there was no mistake this time as Bolt went on to win the title in 9.77 seconds.

Justin Gatlin of the USA finished in second which will no doubt be of relief to a lot of people. As someone who has failed a drugs test in the past, many would prefer if he didn't win any major titles.

The results also show up the dominance of Jamican sprinters with them taking 4 out of the top 5 places.

Usain Bolt runs a seasons best time of 9.85s in the 100m in London

At the Anniversary Games in London this evening, the World record holder and Olympic champion Usain Bolt ran a seasons best time of 9.85 seconds in the 100m.

With the World Championships in Moscow coming up in the next few weeks, Bolt is back in form again.

Usain Bolt runs 19.79s for 200m in Paris

At the Diamond League meeting in Paris this evening, the Olympic champion Usain Bolt won the 200m in a time of 19.73 seconds, the fastest time in the world for 2013. This was Bolt's second race over the distance having clocked 19.79 in Oslo, Norway on the 13th of June.

In a post race interview, he said..."I'm happy with myself but I still need to work on a few mistakes."

Bolt's main rival in the upcoming World Championships in Moscow will be Tyson Gay who won the recent US trials in a time of 19.74s. Bolt's compatriot and Olympic Silver medalist Yohan Blake will not be contesting the 200m in the World Championships as he missed the Jamaican trials due to a hamstring injury.

Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay win their respective 100m trials

In the Jamaican trial for the 2013 World Championships, Usain Bolt won the 100m race in a time of 9.94 seconds. Despite a slow start, Bolt was in control in the last third of the race and just did enough to win.



In the US trials, Tyson Gay won the mens 100m race in a very impressive 9.75 seconds. If he can improve on that time at the World Championships in Moscow in August, he will be a serious challenge to the Jamaican duo of Bolt and Blake.


Justin Gatlin finished 2nd in 9.89 seconds.

Bolt bounces back with a sub 20 second 200m win in Oslo...

Following his defeat to Justin Gatlin in the 100m in Rome in mid-June, the Olympic champion and world record holder Usain Bolt was back in action in Oslo at the end of last week...



In cold conditions in Oslo, Bolt won the 200m race in a time of 19.79 seconds, the fastest 200m time in the world this year. He also broke the 19 year old stadium record of 19.82 set by the great Frankie Fredericks.

Four more years at the top.......In a recent interview, Bolt declared that he was looking to stay number one in the world for the next four years. He said.......“I think I have four more years left in the sport, so now it’s all about dominating for those four years. I’m looking forward to the next Olympics to do something that’s never been done before. That’s one of my biggest goals right now. And for the next four years I will try to dominate the sport and show people that it’s possible to go on being the best, year in, year out.”

On his current form, he said......"I ran against the best field last season at the Olympics and I beat all of them, but this season is a different season and I’ll be taking it just like the Olympics because there’s a World Championship (Moscow in August 2013) that I’ll be focusing on. I’m definitely looking forward to the challenge. I thrive on challenges. Everyone’s going to bring their 'A’ game to the championship and I’m looking forward to it because running against the best is always a joy, so that I can show the world I’m the best.”

Olympic champion but still has to qualify......In the last few days, Bolt has been informed by Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) that he will need to run a qualifying time for the 100m for the World Championships in Moscow. Although he was given a wildcard pass for the longer 200m sprint, the JAAA gave the 100m wildcard to Yohann Blake, the current world champion over the distance.

The IAAF only allow countries to issue one wildcard entry per event. The trials start June 20.

Turbulent week in mens 100m...Gatlin beats Bolt, Lemaitre beats Gatlin

At the Golden Gala meet in Rome last week, the world of mens sprinting had a major upset when the Olympic champion Usain Bolt was beaten in the 100m. Despite getting a good start, Bolt was unable to pull away from the field in the second half and Justin Gatlin from the US won the race in a time of 9.94 seconds. Bolt finished just one hundredth of a second behind in 9.95 seconds.

In a post race interview, Bolt said...."The fact I got a perfect start threw me off. After five steps in I stumbled. I have to do more strength work, I guess. My legs did not feel the energy. At 50 metres I had some problems, but the rest of my race was not bad. You learn more from losing. You can't win every race in your career. The season is still very early. I am not surprised. I have time – I'm not worried."


Justin Gatlin is a controversial figure in the world of athletics having served a four year ban between 2006 and 2010 after testing positive for a banned substance. He had previously won the Olympic title in 2004 and was the bronze medalist in the 2012 London Games.

Fast forward to last Saturday to a race in Rabat, Morocco and Gatlin is beaten by the European champion Christophe Lemaitre. Despite getting a poor start, the Frenchman powered back in the last third of the race to win in a time of 9.98 seconds. (Wind +2.9m/s). Gatlin finished second in 10.02.

Usain Bolt wins Cayman 100m in 10.09...just!

The biggest name in world athletics was in action last night at the Cayman International Meet when he took on a select field in the mens 100m. After trailing for much of the race, he eventually came back at the end to win...just!

Usain Bolt to make £500,000 in London Anniversary Games...

On the 26th and 27th of July this year, the London Anniversary Games looks like it is going to attract some of the biggest names in world athletics. Amongst those taking part is Usain Bolt who is reported to be making £500,000 tax free for two races. Other big names taking part will be 800m gold medalist David Rudisha, 5000m and 10000m Olympic champion Mo Farah, Heptathlon gold medalist Jessica Ennis and Bolt's training partner and Olympic silver medalist Yohan Blake. It does look however very unlikely that the Blake and Bolt  will race each other.

Bolt is said to have avoided competitions in the Britain in the past as the UK tax laws would have meant that he would liable for endorsement earnings as well. Last February, the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne granted a one off tax exemption for overseas athletes taking part in the anniversary games so that the best fields could be assembled.

The Anniversary games are expected to attract sell-out 80,000 crowds when tickets go on sale at the end of April for what will be the last athletics event to be held in the Olympic stadium before it is converted into a multi-use, 54,000-seat venue with West Ham FC as the anchor tenant.

Usain Bolt opens season with 400m win...

At the recent Camperdown Classic in Jamaica, Usain Bolt moved up a distance to win the 400m. Having watched the video, I get the distinct impression that he might be sticking to the 100 and 200m ;o)

Short list for the 2012 IAAF Athlete of the Year award...

At the start of October, the International Amateur Athletics Federation announced the ten candidates for the 2012 Athlete of the Year......Yohan Blake (JAM), Usain Bolt (JAM), Ashton Eaton (USA), Mohamed Farah (GBR), Robert Harting (GER), Kirani James (GRN), Renaud Lavillenie (FRA), Aries Merritt (USA), David Rudisha (KEN) and Christian Taylor (USA)

After an e-mail poll, the final three finalists have been selected.....

Usain Bolt, Jamaica.......Winner of the Olympic 100m and 200m finals as well as being on the 4 x 100m Jamaican relay team. 
Aries Merritt, USA........Winner of the Olympic 110m hurdles and set a new world record of 12.80 seconds at a competition in Belgium in September. 
David Rudisha, Kenya.......Winner of the Olympic 800m final and set a new world record of 1:40.91 in the process.

The big suprise here is of course the elimination of Britain's Mo Farah who won double Olympic gold in the mens 5,000m and 10,000m.  

Update 10am......The IAAF have just announced the three Female Athletes who are still in contention to become the 2012 World Athlete of the Year:
Valerie Adams, New Zealand.....Originally won the silver medal at the shot put at the 2012 London Olympics but was promoted to the gold medal after the initial Olympic champion, Nadzeya Ostapchuk from Belarus failed two drug tests.
Jessica Ennis, Great Britain.....Winner of the Olympic Heptathlon, one of the hardest events at the Games.
Allyson Felix, USA.....At the 2012 Summer Olympics Felix competed in 4 events: The 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay, placing 5th in the 100m and winning gold in the other three, thus becoming the first American woman to win three golds in athletics at an Olympics since Florence Griffith-Joyner at 1988 Games.

The Council of the International Athletic Foundation will select the male and female winners from the finalists with the announcement taking place during a special ceremony in Barcelona, during the 2012 Centenary Celebrations, on 24 November 2012.
