The 3rd race in the Cloyne Commons 4k Winter Series was held on Sunday 18th January 2026 and a total of 365 runners crossed the finish line.

The main attraction of this race is a basic entry fee of €5 on the day. There are no extra online charges, no Athletics Ireland one-day licence fees and there are no costs associated with chip timing. It's exactly how races used to be in the past.

The result of this is shown in the numbers. This race in January of 2024 had 158 finishers. In January of 2025, it jumped to 327 and now in 2026, it's up 10.7% to 365.

Cloyne 4k Winter Series - Nov 2025 to Mar 2026

The Cloyne 4k Winter Series is a set of five low key races in the village of Cloyne in east Cork with an entry fee of just €5! As can be seen from the flyer above, there are five dates. Complete 4 out of the 5 to get a high tech dry fit top.

Each race starts at 9:30am and registration opens in The Rock Bar from 8:30am.

There are no hidden charges, online fees, one-day licence fees or other add-on's, you just turn up on the day and throw €5 into the biscuit tin.

The start line is 600m away down a narrow country road. The course is essentially one loop with a slight overlap and it's a flat and fast course.

The 16th of March marked the end of another successful Cloyne Commons 4K Series which started back in November of 2024. 

The average numbers per race was 280 with a high of 336 in the November edition and a low of 147 in February when the weather was awful.

164 runners completed 4 out of the 5 events to reach the level to get the series dry fit top while 36 did all 5 events.

Cloyne 4k Winter Series - Nov 2024 to Mar 2025

The Cloyne 4k Winter Series is a set of five low key races in the village of Cloyne in east Cork with an entry fee of just €5! As can be seen from the flyer above, there are five dates. Complete 4 out of the 5 to get a high tech dry fit top.

Each race starts at 9:30am and registration opens in Harty's Bar from 8:30am.

Update: 13th Feb 2025  - Please note that the 16th of Feb race has been moved to the 23rd of Feb.

There are no hidden charges, online fees, one-day licence fees or other add-on's, you just turn up on the day and throw €5 into the biscuit tin.

The start line is 500m away down a narrow country road.

The course is essentially one loop with a slight overlap and it's a flat and fast course.

The Cloyne 4k Winter Series is a set of five low key races in the village of Cloyne in east Cork with an entry fee of just €5! As can be seen from the flyer above, there are five dates. Complete 4 out of the 5 to get a high tech dry fit top.

There are no hidden charges, online fees, one-day licence fees or other add-on's, you just turn up on the day and throw €5 into the biscuit tin.

You register at Harty's Bar before the race. The start line is 500m away down a narrow country road.

The course is essentially one loop with a slight overlap and it's a flat and fast course.

This race is very much in the tradition of many of the old road races in East Cork and the Ballycotton area where the entry fee was very modest for a high quality race.

The 4th race in the Cloyne Commons 4k Challenge Series was held on Sunday the 12th of February 2023. There were 190 finishers which despite the dry weather was down from the 242 back in early January. It's likely the clash of dates with the Cork BHAA 5k in Little Island was a factor in this.

Results of the Cloyne Commons 4k - Sun 8th Jan 2023

The third race in the Cloyne Common 4k Winter Series was held on Sunday the 8th of January 2023 and got a large turnout of 242 runners. As you can see from the photo above, the sweet tin (a close relative of the biscuit tin) was out for this one and there was no additional charge for online entries or Athletics Ireland 'one-day' permits for non-club runners.... and the numbers didn't drop (up from 168 last December) and the sky didn't collapse.

The thaw arrived just in time for the Cloyne 4k road race on Sunday the 18th of December 2022. In contrast to the icy blast of the last 10-days, the mild southerly breeze felt 'almost' tropical.

The price of course is that cold and icy is replaced with mild and wet but at least road races can now go ahead.

In the absence of any real road races due to the COVID restrictions, here is another virtual race series that might be of interest...

Cloyne Commons Challenge Virtual 4K Series 2021
Join the fun and take part in Cloyne Commons Challenge Virtual 4k Series 2021.

Run from anywhere and when you want, just make sure to submit your results before the deadline.

Races (or results submission) will take place on the 3rd Sunday of each month between December and April – with a possibility to run the actual final race depending on Covid-19 restrictions: 20 Dec | 17 Jan | 21 Feb | 21 Mar | 18 Apr. Results must be submitted by 6pm on race day and we will accept results from the previous Sunday to each race from 12noon.

 The cost for the 5 races is €30 (plus €2.31 online fee) and includes a high tech tee shirt (postage at your own charge).

Prizes for first 3 women, first 3 men and first female/male juniors overall.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the development of projects in Cloyne

5 races on the 3rd Sunday of each month.

    Race 1 on December 20th.
    Race 2 on January 17th.

Results will be posted not later than 18:00 on race day.

Depending on Covid restrictions, there may be an option to have final race as an actual race!!

When can I run the race?
Between the 1st day of the month and the 3rd Sunday 6pm, eg 1st Dec to 20th Dec for the December race.
When can I submit my result?
Between the 2nd Sunday of the month noon and the 3rd Sunday 6pm, eg 13th Dec to 20th Dec for the December race.
