Guest Post: Run for your Health ...by Pat Walsh

**   Run for your Health  **

You’ve probably heard it said that exercise is medicine.

Well, it’s not just a saying; it’s the truth. There’s a raft of scientific evidence that proves that regular exercise (150 minutes per week, which is about 30 minutes five times per week)—and running in particular—has health benefits that extend well beyond any pill a doctor could prescribe.

Studies have shown that running can help prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, some cancers, and a host of other unpleasant conditions.

What’s more, scientists have shown that running also vastly improves the quality of your emotional and mental life, and even helps you live longer.

Now what do you think of that....😍

I hope to post some more articles on general health and mental benefits of running. I do think we must look more at flexibility and mobility as just run, run, run is not the answer to long term fitness and ability to live life.

I also would like to help take away the 'pressure of the watch' and just focus on participating and enjoying it. Of course we have the elite and good runners who train hard with clear goals and I admire and support them.

But there is also a huge group out there who are just happy to run and we should be proud of ourselves any time we complete a race.

I ran John Treacy 10 mile last week and it was an enjoyable run. Met loads of runners for the first time in 2 years, had a few laughs and chats with beautiful people.

The actual fact that it was my slowest ever time in this race is immaterial. I entered, I ran, I finished, I smiled. I'm alive.

Learn to love running again🥰😘😍
