Ironman comes to Cork in June 2019

It was recently announced that a full Ironman Triathlon will be held in Youghal, Co.Cork on the 23rd of June 2019. Even though I don't have any interest in triathlons, I still know this is a big deal! :o)

The event will consist of a 3.8km swim, a two lap 180km cycle and a full marathon run of 42.2kms.

The marathon is described as a "flat four-lap run course through the centre of the historic town of Youghal, taking in Youghal Harbour and the famous Clock Gate Tower. Athletes will run under the arch of the Clock Gate Tower in the centre of town during each lap before finally running under the finishing arch in Market Square."

Priority entries open 24 May, while general registration opens on 5 June 2018. For more information go to  www.ironman.com/ireland
I presume there will be huge interest in this event and should be a big tourist boost for the East Cork town.

Massive coup for the town and locality to get this, I believe it is the first fully branded full distance that this country will hold. A year to train...and learn to swim!!

Yes & a year to recover from tonsillitis, chronic stomach cramps & infected nostrils after the swim in the sewage ridden seas at Youghal. What's not to look forward to !
