Midleton 5 mile road race coming up on Thurs 3rd May 2018

The big race this week is of course the Midleton 5 miler on Thursday the 3rd of May 2018.

The host club Midleton AC held a launch night recently to help promote the race...

1) You can enter online and it costs €10. Entries on the night cost €12.

2) There is a draw for a night in Garryvoe Hotel for anyone that pre-enters online.

Midleton AC 5 Mile Race at 8pm Thursday 3rd May 2018
The 35th annual Joe Hourigan Memorial Midleton AC 5 Mile Road Race will take
place on Thursday 3rd May at 8pm. The event is run by Midleton AC members on a
voluntary basis to promote running in the community.

The race would not be possible without the support of the local community and the sponsorship of local businesses such as McCarthy Insurance Group, Kearys, East Cork Oil, Market Green, Dornan, AIB, Ulster Bank, Dairygold, Garryvoe Hotel, Castlemartyr Hotel, JJ Coppingers , Lehane Motors and Absolute Chiropractic, who have all made generous contributions.

This race was voted the best 5 mile road race in 2016 by the 12,000+ readers of the Cork Running Blog. Online entry is only €10 at and walk up registration is €12.

Race entrants will get a goody bag, a wrist band, an accurate chip time, a relatively flat course on quiet country roads and plenty of refreshments afterwards. Avonmore Milk will be there at the finish line with protein milk and Tesco and donuts for all runners. There will also be water available as well as the usual spread of food back at HQ.

The Joe Hourigan Memorial cup will go to the first runner across the line with 50 additional prizes on the night worth over €1500; top 5 male & female finishers, top 3 M40-45- 50 & F35-40- 45, top 2 M55-60 & F50-55, 1st M65-70 & F60-

65, WC, MJ, FJ, Midleton AC Male & Female. We have a further €100 for the man and woman who manage to break the course record. The men’s current record is 24 minutes 40 seconds while the women’s record is 28 minutes 55 seconds.

The 2018 race headquarters will be in the easily accessible Market Green Shopping Centre which has plenty of parking and is only a few hundred metres from the race start. Registration, number and goody bag collection plus the post-race reception, with refreshments and prize giving, will all take place at race HQ in Market Green. For those wishing to enter, the easiest option is to register online which will remain open until midnight on Weds May 2nd and is available via our new website at

Online entrants received by Wednesday 3rd May will be put into a draw for a chance to win a night in the fabulous Garryvoe Hotel.

There will also be walk up registration available at Market Green on Wednesday 2nd
May from 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
and again on race night, Thursday 3rd May from 5:00
pm onwards
