The weather forecast for the 2017 Cork City Marathon looks pretty reasonable with mostly dry conditions predicted.

There are no weather fronts over the country. As you can see, there is one out in the Atlantic but that shouldn't arrive until Sunday night / Monday.

There will be a westerly airflow over the country so most of the showers will be near the mountains on the west coast. Cork City should stay pretty dry although you can never rule out the odd shower.

The temperature will be in the low teens so it will still feel pretty warm when running, especially in sunny spells. You should wear a simple singlet or short sleeve top. It's way too warm for any type of layers or running jackets. If you are standing at the start of the marathon, half-marathon or relay stage and you feel slightly cold then that's about right. Remember that you'll generate a lot of heat as you run.

As for the wind, it will be around 20kph and from the west. This is a pretty reasonable breeze and will be felt along exposed parts of the course.

For the first 6 miles of the marathon, it will be behind the runners.

From miles 8 to 13 around Mahon, it will be a mixed bag. Sometimes behind, sometime ahead.

From miles 13 to 15, the runners will be largely sheltered in the railway cutting.

The half marathon will have the wind behind them for the first mile and a half although it's unlikely to be felt due to the congestion of runners.

From about the 15 mile mark near Pairc Ui Chaoimh to about 22 miles, the wind will be mostly into runners faces. This is where it will have the largest impact.

For the last 3 miles of the marathon, it will be a welcome tailwind. It will also mean that the cooling effect will drop and this section could feel very warm, especially if it's sunny.

Overall.....Probably dry, risk of the odd shower. Probably a bit too warm for ideal race conditions but better than 20 deg C plus. Could be a lot worse.

This can't be stressed often enough. When running (especially racing) a good guideline is to dress for temperatures that are 15-20 degrees hotter i.e. if its 15 degrees out wear what you would wear if it were 30 degrees and you were not running. Even in a shorts and singlet you'll be warm enough after the first mile.
