Back in late November of 2012, Athletics Ireland announced the standards required to qualify for the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Gothenbourg in Sweden in March. The standard for men in the 3,000m was 8:00 minutes.
At the New Balance Boston Indoor Games on Saturday, the 2nd of February, Ciarán Ó Lionáird from Cork ran 7:53.69 and is now eligible to be picked for the Irish team.

Fionnuala Britton also got the 3000m standard in Karlshruhe Germany at the weekend running 8:55.2 to Finish 3rd in the race. This is also an indoor PB for her and puts her 3rd on the all time Irish rankings after Mary Cullen and Sonia O'Sullivan.
