Notice : MMRA 7km trail run on Claragh Mtn nr Millstreet - Sun 18th March 2018

The next event on the MMRA calendar is a 7km trail race near Millstreet in Cork. This is the sixth race in the Munster Mountain Running Association Winter-Spring League 2018.

It's probably one of easiest in terms of mountain runs and is a good introduction. It is however tougher than the usual trail races that take place in the various woods. In terms of hills races in Cork, this one could justifiably be called a classic as it has a long history.

One of the unusual aspects of the race is that it starts in the town of Millstreet. From there, you look up at Claragh and it's hard to imagine that you'll be doing a race that will take you to the summit and back. It's also hard to imagine that it is only 7kms but it is.

This 7km trail race is organised by the Munster Mountain Running Association and here is some info from them.....

Number 6 in the Winter/Spring League is this Sunday 18 March. This is a joint effort with Duhallow Athletic Club.

Instructions:
1. Run to the top of Claragh Mountain as fast as you can
2. Turn around and run back down as fast as you can

7km run starting and finishing on the main street in Millstreet and running to the top of Claragh mountain (and back!). Simple!!!

€5 entry fee on the day, but make sure you pay your €10 annual membership fee online at www.imra.ie in advance to make sure you can run.

Race Marking: Only major junctions marked - Only major junctions marked

The race begins on Claragh Rd (just opposite the carpark) heading south. After about 800m, take a sharp left onto a narrow road, and after another 600m, take a right turn onto a path going through the forest. This path zig-zags up through the forest, until you go over a stile on your left that exits the forest. You now follow the path keeping the forest to your right, until you go through a gate on to the open mountain. You are now on a narrow path that swings to the right and then takes you to the summit. Turn left at the summit, and head straight back down to intersect the uphill route and then follow your route back to the finish.

Carpark and registration is opposite St. Patrick's Church on the main road going through the town (R582).

Organisers Instructions: This race is open to all IMRA members and costs €5. There is no online pre-registration available. Please arrive at least 30 mins before race start time to give time for race registration.

Note: If you are not a 2018 IMRA member or don't know your race number, it will not be possible to enter the race

Gradient isn't that steep! :o)
