The big race in Munster this coming weekend is of course the John Treacy Dungarvan 10-mile on Sunday 1st of February.
Entry List... The race sold out back at the end of December 2025. The full list of the 3587 people who entered can be seen HERE
The gender split is 59% male and 41% female. 34% of the male field is under the age of 40 while 33.4% of the female field are under 40.
I think a lot of people not involved in running think that it's a sport for young adults but the reality is very different. Most of the adults in road races and in athletic clubs are in the masters category.
Entries for this race opened on the 1st of Dec 2025 to athletic club members only for a week. 888 people entered which is 25% of the total.
The entries opened for everyone on the 8th of December and it then took another 3 weeks to sell out. In the end, 48.5% of the field are non-club entries. Of those that entered in the last 3 weeks, 64.4% were non-club runners.
Course... This is the 10-mile course...
There is a small loop at the start and then the route is mostly a big loop to the west of Dungarvan.
This is the start of the race...
The white line above show how the 3000 or so runners will be spread out for the start of the race.
Once the race starts, the fast runners are off straight away but it will take a while before the back of the field will start moving. That's pretty normal and it doesn't matter because your time doesn't start until you run under the start line gantry.
However, it's important that the runners at the back stay on the right hand side of the road and clear the Collins Rd junction as soon as possible. A few minutes after the start of the race, the front of the race with cars, lead bikes and fast runners is going to come flying around the corner from Collins Road.
If you're going to use the portaloo then give yourself plenty of time. You don't want to be on the left hand side of the road a few minutes after the race has started and then find a wall of fast runners blocking you from getting to the start line.
This map shows the early and late stages of the race...
Early stages - Yellow arrows - You can see the loop at the start... then south on the Cork road until you turn right at about 1.9 miles and up a gradual hill. You then run past the finish line area... past the 3-mile mark and the start of the loop to the west.
Late stages - Pink arrows - There is a gradual climb up from the Brickey River to the 9-mile mark and then in along the flat towards Dungarvan. Before the roundabout, you turn left and up a slight hill and then around two corners to the finish line.
Overall there are a few small pulls along the route but it's a reasonably fast 10-mile route.
Weather Forecast... It looks pretty good. The isobars are well spread out so it's likely it will be cool but dry with light winds.

RACE DAY NOTICE.
We hope you are all excited to come to the John Treacy Dungarvan 10 Mile this Sunday 1st Feb!
Race start time is 11am
Do not give your race number to someone else. In doing so you may distort the prizes and more importantly in case of emergency we will not have the correct contact details for your next of kin.
Remember blue numbers are allocated to male participants and pink to female participants. Do not swap, you will be removed from the results!
We are delighted to be back hosting all our past participants and newcomers to an event we are very proud of and want everyone to enjoy as much as possible.
There are just a few details we want to make you aware of:
Before the Race
1. Race starts at 11am sharp. Before you leave home check you have your race number!
2. If you suddenly realise your number didn’t arrive in the post don’t panic, call to the HELP DESK at Daybreak Garage, Youghal Rd, Dungarvan Eircode X35XT71 between 9am and 10.30am.
3. Park responsibly, if you see a sign saying resident parking only. Do not park there. You may be clamped.
4. Come on time, find a spot and give yourself time to get to the start line.
5. If possible come dressed to run with warmer clothes on over your running gear, ready to remove before race starts.
6. There will be no collection of gear left at the start line or out the course. Don’t wear anything you are not prepared to leave behind.
7. There will be at least 30 Portaloo’s at the start line with another 2 at the finish line. Go early and don’t wait until the last minute and complain about the queue. If 3,000 people decide to go to the toilet at 10.55am no amount of toilets would suffice.
8. Before you run dispose of all gear, bin bags, water bottles or any other rubbish into the bins provided.
During the Race
1. NO HEADPHONES… If you do you will be recorded at a headphone wearer and your time will not be shown.
2. Listen to the stewards before and during the race and, watch and listen out for instruction.
3. If you are running with pacers it will be slightly crowded for the first 2 miles.
4. There are 2 water stops, first is at 2.5 miles and the second is at 7 miles. We are using tetra water bottles this year instead of plastic so be aware they are screw cap. Do not throw the top on the ground (for others to slip on) please replace and dispose of your rubbish in bins provided.
5. DO NOT throw water bottles over the fence along the route. Hold until you meet the next bin or give to a steward/spectator.
After the Race
1. When you cross the line move on as best you can, if you need help step to the side and we will assist you.
2. Proceed to the Goody Bag area, look for the signs for the t-shirts and proceed to your chosen size. (There are no x-small t-shirts, these t-shirts don’t come in x-small).
3. Please leave the area as quickly as possible and again dispose of all rubbish in the bins provided.
The top 5 men and women will be presented with their prizes at the finish line. All other prizes will be posted out in the week after the race once results are verified.
Provisional results will be available to view on My Run Results and if you are missing please email them on support AT myrunresults DOT com.
We hope you have a great day out and above all a positive experience. Remember all the helpers are volunteers on the day so be kind, patient and supportive to your fellow runners and stewards.
