Results & Photos of the Cork BHAA Gas Networks Ireland 5k race... Sun 26th Feb 2017

A total of 330 runners took part in this years Cork BHAA Gas Networks Ireland 5k race on the Marina circuit in Cork City on Sunday the 26th of February 2017. One unusual feature of this race was the early start time of 9am as opposed to the more usual 11am start for BHAA races. As luck would have it, the weather was much dryer at 9am as a band of heavy rain arrived in Cork City around 11am.

Thoughts? What did you think of the 9am start as opposed to 11am? In this case, they had to make the change today but would you like to see the BHAA races start at an earlier time?

I guess it has good points. The obvious bad point is having to get up earlier! :o) The obvious advantage is that you can get the race out of the way and you have the whole day ahead of you.

What do you think? 9am or 11am start?

The 6.45am alarm clock on a Sunday morning was not funny (at the time). But to have the race run, warm down done, have a post race cuppa & chat with fellow runners and be home for 11.30 am was actually very welcome. Wouldn't object at all to the BHAA adding 1 or 2 more 9am starts.

Also really liked the adapted Marina 5k route. Great to not have to do the double loop!

I like the 9am start but then it suits me! I certainly prefered the new course to the traditional two lap circuit

Great race, well organised and I also enjoyed the early start/finish. Itd be nice to have a couple of early starts like this during the summer months.

Is this going to become the permanent 5km route down at the marina? Less cornering/loops was a welcome change.

I enjoyed the early start . I am an early bird any way but it was great to be done and dusted and home by 10.30am . And enjoy the rest of my day. The route was good. I like it better than the double loop . Less boring. More direct . When you rounded the corner onto the marina you know its all the way to the end .A much more pleasant race. May be one or too more early morning races would be nice . It was a good event well organized and home before the torrential down pour .

A great time to start! You still have the rest of the day as it's over and done with early!

I think the 9am start was great, It would be great to see a few more of the BHAA races start early as you would get home early, great idea. Also really enjoyed the new course. well done to all who organised it.

Loved the early morning start - still had a good run at the day (no pun intended). The new route was also a welcome change. Great feed as usual. A bonus to be sitting in the car when the downpour arrived. Well done to the BHAA for organizing another great event.

The new course is great but I would like to see the start moved back 500 meters to reduce congestion at the first corner. Early start was a bonus.

early start was great and the course was great too, wouldn't work for the midweek races,

loved the early start. Sometimes there is too much hanging around before the 11 AM start. maybe 10 AM be a good compromise to those who think it was too early. Course was nice. The two loops can become repetitive .. enjoyed it. Well done BHAA

Earlier start was great, either 9 or 10am is a good improvement on the usual 11am. Great to have use of the Cork Boat Club. Finding parking was the only issue otherwise a very well run race.
