From John Walshe of Ballycotton Running Promotions...Tonight's five-miler was the first organised race around the scenic East Ferry area since a 10km took place there for a number of years in the late 1990s.

It started in June 1997 with 44 runners, the following year 54 took part and this increased to 73 in 1999. Sadly, the dawn of a new century saw just 41 turning out and it wasn't held again.

The following are the main results from the inaugural year of 1997 when 44 ran:

Great course, lovely rolling hills and a view to die for. Just one question: why was there no prize for the M55 category when the Ladies over 55s were recognised ? It seems unfair that a M55 who got 21st place did not get a prize whereas the F55 who came 5th last did. Sexual discrimination or what ?
Just to be clear I am not in the M55 bracket (yet) so this is not a personal gripe.
