175 runners turned out for this years Youghal AC 5k road race. It looks as if there was a bad crash at Cobh junction so this had a major impact on any runners traveling from Cork City.

Update on the Cork BHAA Gas Networks Ireland results

The BHAA are sorting out some issues with times before they issue the full results. See their statement below...

We're still trying to sort through the issue we had last night for the Gas Networks Ireland 5k. Please bear with us and we will have results as soon as possible.

We had an issue with duplicate bibs being issued for a certain amount of runners. This affects the results for all runners so we can't post definitive results. We apologise for the delay as we always get results out on the same day.

If you had a bib between 26 and 100 can you PM us here or send an email with your bib and approximate time to register AT corkbhaa DOT com ?

We hope you enjoyed the race in spite of this and we will get back to our expected high standards for the rest of the races in 2019.

Notice : Coachford 5 mile road race - Thurs 11th July 2019

The annual Coachford Autumn Festival 5 mile road race to the west of Cork City is coming up on Thursday the 11th of July 2019.

This should be particular interest to anyone west of the city as there aren't that many races in this particular area.

The entry fee is €12 online or €15 on the night. They will also be selling a limited number of t-shirts on the night for €10 extra. There is also a medal for all finishers.

From the organisers...*Registration in Coachford GAA Complex from 6pm. €15 Entry on the night , Chip Timing. Race Starting @ 8pm Sharp, Fully Stewarded. (Course measured with Jones Counter by Kevin Cummins)

Thursday the 11th July will again see the village of Coachford hosting top athletes and fun runners  from all over the  Cork and Munster region to take part in this award winning race .Voted best 5 mile road race in  2017 and again in 2018. This event is all part of the Coachford family festival hosted by Broomhill vintage club ,where all funds are directed to charity ,with over  €120,000 raised to date. 

This year we are supporting local man John Kennedy  who fell from a ladder on the 8th Oct 2018 and is now paralyzed from the waist down .This accident has been life altering for both John and his wife Ina and family .Please come out and support a great cause and have a great evening with family and friends  in Coachford.

Plus perpetual shield and a cash price of €100  for the club with the most people attending on the night walking or running

This 5km road race is coming up in the town of Youghal in East Cork on Thursday, the 11th of July 2019...

This popular 5k race is organised by Youghal AC, goes through the main streets of the town and is very flat.

With its location near the county boundary, the race is sure to attract runners from both East Cork and West Waterford.

The race is on a flat fast course on the streets of the historic town and passes under the iconic Youghal Clock Tower...

Organised by Youghal AC, this race has an Athletics Ireland licence and has been measured accurately by Jones Counter.

Notice: Cork BHAA Gas Networks Ireland 5k road race - Wed 10th July 2019

The annual Cork BHAA Gas Networks Ireland 5k road race is coming up on Wednesday the 10th of July 2019 at 8pm in Cork City.

The Cork Boat Club which is located in Blackrock village will be the race HQ. The race starts near Pairc Uí Chaoimh and takes in the Centre Park Road, Monghan Road and the Marina. As courses go, there are no hills and it's flat and fast.

The one issue however is parking. It is very limited near the Cork Boat Club but there is plenty at the other end of Marina near Pairc Uí Chaoimh.

Here is some information from the organisers..... The Gas Networks Ireland race takes place at a Marina 5k route this year. Registration is from 6.30pm at Cork Boat Club in Blackrock village with the race starting at 8pm up near Lee Rowing Club. Registration will close at 7.45pm to allow runners get to the start which is approximately 1 mile from Cork Boat Club.

Free travel mugs for the first 500 to register on the night

Parking...The following areas are where you are likely to find parking but these will fill up early so it would be worth getting to registration as early as possible.

a) Car parks on far side of Blackrock Castle. These will fill up with early morning walkers if we have a fine morning
b) Parking near Shandon Boat Club where traditionally a lot of people would have parked for Marina 5k races. If you’ve car-pooled, the driver can drop off others who can register for them at Cork Boat Club and meet them at the start.
c) City side of Blackrock church. Meadow Grove Estate which is between Blackrock Village and Skehard Rd.

As always, the entry fee is €5 for registered runners and €10 for non-registered. I suggest you park your car and jog to the race HQ with the exact entry fee. From there, go to the start line.

A free travel mug will also be given out to the first 500 runners to register...

London Marathon Runners called 'Fat' & 'Slow' given a free entry for next year

The 2019 London Marathon held last April is one of the largest marathons in the world and this year, it had a record field of 42,549 finishers.


It wasn't without controversy though as some of the contractors had started to clean up while the marathon was still on. Slower runners said that water stations had been packed away by the time they had reached them.

Participants completing the course in 7h 30m complained that the contractors and marshals had told them to 'hurry up' and used comments such as "if you weren't so fat, you could run," and "this is a race, not a walk".

London Marathon has apologised for this and has said they will implement the following changes...

• Start the clean-up operation later to ensure it will not affect those running at that pace
  Look at the timings of when water was handed out
  Have one of its most senior staff at the back of the race to monitor the event
  Tell contractors of the procedures in place for those running at the slower pace

That have also offered hundreds of slower runners a free entry into next years event.

Notice : Dromcollogher 4 mile - Mon 1st July 2019

Just a reminder for anyone in North Cork and surrounding areas. There is a nice 4 mile race in Dromcollogher on Monday evening the 1st of July 2019.

This race has a long history and gets a good turn out every year.

Ballincollig Junior parkrun gets off to a flying start

The inaugural Ballincollig Regional junior parkrun got off to a flying start on Sunday the 30th of June 2019 with 185 crossing the finish line.

Results

This 2k parkrun for 4 to 14 year olds will be held every Sunday at 9:30am and is completely free.

The course is one and half laps of the playing grounds at the western end of the Regional park.
