Results of the Banteer 5k road race - 22nd July 2012
The fine Irish Summer lasted a full two days before the wind and clouds returned yet again on Sunday! However, that didn't deter the 78 runners that took part in this low key 5k road race in Banteer. While the number may look low, they are actually 56% up on last year when just 50 runners took part.
The mens race was won by Cathal O'Donovan of St.Finbarr's AC in a time of 16:00. The first woman home was Carol Finn of Leevale AC in 19:40.

Upcoming Race...Gortroe 10k Fun Run in aid of Autism Assist Dogs of Ireland - Sun 16th Oct 2011
This 10km Charity Fun Run is coming up on Sunday, the 16th of October at 12 noon. Organised by Banteer Macra na FeÃrme, all proceeds are going to Autism Assist Dogs of Ireland (AADI). The race itself is in Gortroe which is approx 10 kms west of Mallow, just off the N72 Killarney road.
AADI provides a valuable service that can have life changing effects for children with autism and their families. Their assistance dogs are provided free of charge. Many children with autism have a tendency to "bolt". They have no sense of danger and do not always want to hold an adults hand. In public the child is attached to their assistance dog, which is under the control of an adult at all times. This makes outings possible and pleasant for all the family. The AADI are based in Quarterstown Mills in Mallow.
Race Flyer....
You can enter on the day with a donation of €10 or if you would like to get sponsorship, they have cards and t shirts. Contact banteermacra@gmail.com or 0879274699 for more information.
Full preview here next week just before the race.
In the meantime, you can get more information about Autism Assist Dogs of Ireland in this PDF document HERE and by visiting their website...... http://www.autismassistancedogsireland.ie/index.html

Preview of the Banteer 5k....Sun 19th July, 2009This is a brand new race on the race calendar and takes place in the village of Banteer at 3:30pm. I presume that the course is much the same as the one used for the County Roads Championships a few years back? If that's the case then the route is pretty flat and it should be a course for fast times.
Getting there........If you are west of Cork City, then the best route is probably to take the R579 road for Kanturk from the Ballincollig bypass and go out past the Anglers Rest. See the earlier post for directions for Donoughmore....it's the same road.
Otherwise, the best route is to take the N20 up to Mallow and at the roundabout, take the N72 west for Killarney. The turnoff for Banteer is a few kms out this road.
