Someone asked me about this event and the organisers said that it is on next Sunday the 2nd of September 2018.

Update : Fri 31st Aug....Please note that they have now reached their quota and entries are closed.
It might be of interest if you want to use it as a training run. Contact the organisers at blarneyhalf AT gmail DOT com .

George Brennan of the Cork BHAA ...RIP
A bit of sad news this time. George Brennan pictured here on the left was the treasurer for the Cork BHAA for many years and was often to be seen at the finish line of many races over the years.
From the Cork BHAA...... It is with great sadness that we learnt that George Brennan passed away this morning. George was a long time committee member and anybody who came to races with us would have seen him at the finish line with his clicker. He was missed at races in the last year or so but kept tabs on races from afar. George was our treasurer and officially retired from that position a few years back but continued to assist on all matters financial until recently in spite of his failing health.
Arrangements will be posted here when we have them.

Results & Photos of the Cork BHAA Musgraves 5k race... Wed 15th Aug 2018
Over the last fortnight or so, it's been pretty wet for a lot of the evening races and this may have impacted on numbers. However, this one in contrast was held in pretty much ideal conditions as it was nice and dry. A total of 378 runners took part which is down 29.3% on last year which is a pretty large drop considering the weather.
What was also very noticeable with the 8pm start was just how much the light was fading at the end, especially for the slower runners. After a fantastic summer, we are definitely sliding towards the dark evenings.

Belarus runner with nose bleed wins Euro marathon
One of the most dramatic images from the recent European Athletics Championships was that of Volha Mazuronak from Belarus who got a nose bleed about 30 minutes into the marathon race in Berlin.
While it looked serious early on, the bleeding eventually stopped and Mazuronak, who was fifth in the Rio Olympics, was able to clean her face with a sponge at a water station.

Negative publicity for Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Dublin due to litter
The annual Rock n Roll Half-Marathon in Dublin was held last weekend with a few thousand runners taking part. It wasn't without its problems however as there were a lot of complaints after the event due to the amount of rubbish left discarded on the streets.
The main complaints seem to be the volume of the waste left behind by runners and the lack of an immediate clean up by the organisers.
As you can see above and below, the state of the roads was highlighted by RTE, local journalists and residents.

Notice...GR8KM race in Mitchelstown, NE Cork - Fri 10th Aug 2018
The GR8KM organised by Galtee Runners AC coming up on Friday, the 10th of August 2018. As the name suggests, it is an 8 km road race on the roads around
Mitchelstown and considering its proximity to the several major roads, it is
likely to attract runners from North Cork, Limerick and Tipperary.
With the M8 motorway, Mitchelstown is only 50 kms or a 35-40 minute drive from Cork City so it's an option for city based runners as well.
They have the same 8km course this year with €200 on offer to anyone breaking the 8km course record (male & female). The race is sponsored by Kerrygold Park. ..
From Galtee Runners AC... Galtee Runners with Kerrygold Park are proud to present our 9th Annual GR8 8km road run! We have retained last year's entirely new and improved route which is ideal for getting some PB's and it is also without some of those dreaded hills! This race is also race 2 of the Avondhu 3x3 series. Our HQ for this year's GR8 will once again be Mitchelstown Leisure Centre and registration will begin here at 5:30pm on Friday 10th August. Entry for the run is just €10 with all category prizes on offer and all entrants will be chip timed. The race itself will begin at 7:30pm SHARP! All levels of ability are welcome and we hope to see as many numbers out as possible. What better way to run off those cobwebs from the Bank Holiday Weekend!!
**Course Record** :: We are delighted to announce that this year's course record prize has been increased to €200!! The latest course records were set in 2017 on our new and improved route. The records are held by David Mansfield of Clonliffe Harriers (24:54) and Orla Touhy of Fermoy (30:19)... Can these be beaten this year?
The race will start and finish at the the Mitchelstown Leisure Centre which is just behind the Tesco shopping centre.
Preview... A preview of the 2018 course with maps, photos and directions can be seen HERE...
