The Youghal Bay Half-Marathon & 10k in east Cork is coming up this year on Sunday the 10th of August 2025

The 10km race will start at 9:30am while the Half-Marathon will start at the later time of 11:30am.

Entries HERE

Info from Youghal AC... "A multi-lap course through the medieval streets of Youghal, the beautiful scenic Front Strand area and the Greenway. This is the perfect course to set a PB and is an ideal warmup up for those training for an Autumn Marathon.

We have a unique 2 lap course so your supporters will have plenty of opportunity to watch you as you make your way around and enjoy a fantastic running atmosphere and breath taking scenery.

The 10k race is a single lap of the route.

Full road closures will be in place along the course

Charity: €2 from each entry will be donated to charity.

SPECIALLY DESIGNED FINISHERS MEDAL FOR 10KM & HALF MARATHON

FINISHERS T-SHIRT FOR HALF MARATHON ONLY

STRICTLY 16 years and over to compete in either race"

In 2024 which was the inaugural year, the course was more in the town on the narrow streets. The map above shows the new course for 2025.

They are now using part of the new Greenway which allows them to take about half of the route to the west of the town. The new route also removes the hill by Claycastle so it should be faster.

The 10k course is one lap and it will start by the Town Hall...

The course proceeds south and there is a short pull up to Youghal Lighthouse which is really the only climb on the course. Note the elevation gain is only about 10-15m so it's very modest.

Then it's down onto the Greenway which is on the route of the old railway line and is dead flat. As can be seen from the map above, roughly 3kms of the course shown in green in on the flat Greenway.

Then it's back onto public roads and a return back to the town. The approach to the lighthouse from this side is a bit more gentle.

After the lighthouse, it downhill and onto the iconic Youghal Clock Tower which all runners will go under.

When you run on narrows roads like this with high buildings on either side, you can get the perception of running faster than you might actually be running.

The course will then loop around and finish by the tourist office...

The Half-Marathon essentially is two laps of the 10k course. The start line is pushed back to near the Clock Tower to make up the extra distance.

In summary... The Youghal Bay Half-Marathon & 10k is on a reasonably fast course in a historic town. There's a nice mix of road and Greenway which keeps things interesting.

It should be on a par with other 10k and half-marathon courses in terms of times and PB's.
