Results of the 5k parkruns in Cork - Sat 9th Dec 2023



Results of the 5k parkruns around the county on Saturday 9th Dec 2023. Approximately 762 runners and walkers took part in the 10 events in Co Cork.

Report... There was a big change in the temperatures for this weeks 5k parkruns in Cork with it more 'cool' then cold. Last week, the temperatures were just above zero and Tramore Valley Park was cancelled due to ice on the course. The temperature this morning at 9:30am up at Cork Airport was 9 deg C which is comfortable for running.

Glengarriff: Well done to Michael O'Sullivan who completed his 100th 5k parkrun in Glengarriff today! Michael's very first parkrun was in Glengarriff back on the 10th of Aug 2019. 91 of the parkruns were at Glengarriff with 3 on Bere Island. The remaining 6 were in 6 other locations.

Glen River: It seems as if a good few people hit the 100 mark today. At the Glen River 5k parkrun, Sean Coen of the Blarney Happy Feet crew hit the century mark. Sean's first parkrun was at Ballincollig back on the 6th of Oct 2018 with a total of 25 completed there. Most of Sean's parkruns were in the Glen with 69 notched up. The remaining 6 were done at Tramore Valley Park.

Macroom: Tom Cuddihy was another runner to hit the '100' parkrun mark today! Tom's first parkrun was in Macroom over 10-years ago on the 18th of May 2013. 98 of Tom's runs were in Macroom with just one in Ballincollig and one at Glen River.

Ballincollig: Another century! Maura O'Sullivan completed her 100th 5k parkrun at the Ballincollig event. Maura's first parkrun was in Ballincollig on the 12th of January 2019. 74 of the 100 were in Ballincollig with 9 in Mallow, 3 at Tramore Valley Park, 2 in Naas and the other 12 at single events around the country.

Tramore Valley Park: Well done to Liz O'Sullivan who joined the 100 parkrun club as well today. Liz did her first 5k parkrun in Clonakilty on the 23rd of January 2016 and 82 out of the 100 have been there. 7 were at Tramore Valley Park, 3 in Ballincollig, 2 in Castlehaven and the balance of 6 were individual events including Holyrood in Scotland.

If I missed anyone who passed a notable milestone like 100, 200, 250 or above parkruns then let me know.
