For the first time ever, over 1000 people took part in a 5k parkrun in Co Cork. With the new Mallow parkrun now being the eight event in the county, it was enough to get the overall numbers over the line to reach 1033 last Saturday.
Over the last few weeks, there has been a thing going around on Facebook where people were doing a comparison between something now and something ten years ago. You could do the same for the running scene and see how much has changed.
Back in 2008, the vast majority of running events were organised by athletic clubs and a few by the BHAA. Fast forward to 2019 and now parkruns are probably the largest events on a weekly average spread out over the year.
This is a breakdown of the numbers last Saturday 2nd Feb 2019...
