One of the more popular 5k races in Cork for the last few years has been the FACE 5k in Kilworth. It was held in mid-February every year and the numbers for the last few years were 299 in 2015, 333 in 2016 and 321 in 2017.
Unfortunately the charity behind the race, F.A.C.E. (Fermoy Action Children's Education) is no longer in operation as of the 31st December 2017.
FACE was set up by Tom Flynn eight years and the race was organised first back in 2014. While it's easy to take race numbers for granted, Tom and the team from FACE put in a huge amount of work to prepare for the annual race. Looking at the list of sponsors every year, it's obvious to see how much work went into the race and why the race was so successful.
If you want to see any of the previous results, have a look at the FACE 5k website... https://face5k.wordpress.com/
Statement from FACE below...
It is with great sadness we have to announce that F.A.C.E. (Fermoy Action Children's Education) is no longer in operation as of the 31st December 2017 as we didnt have the members, resourses or volunteers to keep going.
We would like to thank each and everyone who contributed to F.A.C.E. over the last 8 years especially Hazel Baylor, Mary Barry & the committee of Adair Hall for the use of their hall.
We would like to thank all the business people far and wide for their support, sponsorship, help and encouragement to keep going for as long as we could also everyone that organised fundraisers on our behalf without all your help it would have not been possible to keep going.
A special mention to all the wonderful voulunteers, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists etc we had the opportunity of working with and we wish them all the best for the future.
We would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to the committees throughout the years especially Tom Flynn Founder / Chairperson, Mag Flynn, Natasha Flynn Sectrtaries, Pat Canning Tresurer we wish them all the best for the future and we would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication to the group.
Finally we would like to thank and wish all the wonderful children who walked through the doors of F.A.C.E. a very successfull and happy future Saturday morning wont be the same without seen all the smiling faces running in but we hope we helped as many children as possible.
Thank you xx
