Irish Ultra runner Eoin Keith wins 'Britains Most Brutal Race'
Irish Ultra runner Eoin Keith has just won 'The Spine Race', billed as one of the hardest Ultra races in Britain. Eoin who is originally from Cork completed the 268 mile (431kms) course in a time of 95h 43m knocking over 15 hours off the previous 2014 record of 110:45.
Eoin is one of the top Irish Ultra runners having won the Irish 24 hour championships in Belfast in 2015 and has represented Ireland on several occasions in the past.
As you can see from the map below, the race starts near Manchester, runs up the spine of Britain and finishes near the Scottish border.
What's even more remarkable is that it's in the middle of the winter when conditions are at their worst.

This was an extraordinary achievement when you consider that according to the race website the Pennine Way crosses "the Peak District, Cheviots, Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland National Park – finishing on the Scottish Borders."
He had roughly 2 hours sleep since starting on Saturday which beggars belief!
Crazy stuff. Shouldn't be allowed really, when you think of all the Health & safety issues, a distance like that raises. Don't think running is meant to be an extreme sport.
Hats off to him anyways.
Fair play to him what an achievement
What an amazing achievement! The mental strength needed to complete such a race is incredible.
Corcaigh AbĂș John , we're claiming Eoin and he is a guy who is admired for sure by running enthusiasts.... a massive course record as well and an amazing effort. The best ultra runner in Irl at this point in time.
