A huge entry of 559 runners turned out for the Ballintotis 4 mile road race in East Cork. This was the first evening race on the calendar and in running terms, marks the start of the summer season. The numbers are well up on last years figure of 436, an increase of some 28%. Attracting that many runners for a race on what is a busy race calendar is a remarkable achievement.
The winner of the mens race this year was once again the 2010 winner James McCarthy of East Cork AC in a time of 19:34. In 2nd place, Sandis Bralitis of West Waterford AC was just 20 seconds behind in a time of 19:54.....which coincidently was the time that James ran last year to win the race. In 3rd place, Chris Harrington of Leevale AC ran 20:47.
In the ladies race, it was a clean sweep by Eagle AC runners with the club taking all 3 of the top spots. Niamh Roe ran 23:27 to take 1st position. In 2nd place, the 2010 winner Rhona Lynch ran 23:58, just 10 seconds down on her time last year. In 3rd position, Ann-Marie Holland ran 24:18 having recovered from winning the Great Island 10 Mile race last Sunday.
T-Shirts.....Due to the larger than expected numbers, there was a shortage of T-Shirts. See message below....
Due to the large gathering (556 race and 96 walk), we ran short tee shirts. The details of those who did not receive tee shirts have been recorded and we hope to supply the additional tee shirts at the Midleton AC race in 2 weeks time. Confirmation to follow..........John Cashman, Ballintotis Committee

Ran the Ballintotis 4 last night for the second year. This race has got bigger and better from last year. Well done to all concerned.
John
Great run last night, the entertainment was excellent and had people in great form, very well organised well done to everyone involved and well done to all who ran. Refreshments were excellent aswell and even though numbers were up on last year there was plenty of food & tea for everyone. Bualadh bos gach duine
Great start to the summer season. Weather had everyone in good mood for the flattest and fastest 4 ml around. Well done to all concerned for catering with such a large group. It was handled professionally but still with an element of Community spirit and crack.
It was a great race, way too packed at the back of the race. I dont know how those times are ok, I finished 3 minutes faster than posted. It took about 3 mins to get over the finish line at the end. All made up for by the view over the lake at the end, and the great atmosphere, food. Well done, and hope this goes well for the community centre. Cors
Well done everyone, the organisation of this race was first class. However, the huge turnout on what were narrow country roads meant that a PB was out of the question as it was very congested for the first mile. The course was great - very flat with great scenery.
Fabulous event. Ballintotis is a wonderful scenic area. The people living there are fantastic in terms of welcoming and support both before, during and after the trek. You couldn't have asked for a more better evening as temperatures were ideal for running. Looking forward to next years battle already.
A wonderful event but I was amazed to see so many people wearing headphones on such a short race.I thoyght they were banned anyway.
great run...really enjoyed the atmosphere but the end line was a bit of a disaster as it took me over a minute to cross the finish line and hence my time being posted incorrectly but still a great event
Great night had by all from all at Youghal AC
On the ipod issue didn't know they were banned because there was nothing on the flyers and a four mile road race is a lot to some people especially if it is their first race,as it was the case for a lot of people on the night. Well done to all involved. Robert Hamill
Fantastic evening. Great to see such a turnout and superb community spirit. So well organised and we were delighted to have been able to take part. Well done John and team.
