Kate Veale selected for Irish team for the World Team Racewalking Championships in Turkey

Athletics Ireland recently announced the Irish team for the World Race Walk Team Championships in Turkey. One of the novel features this year is the inclusion of a Mixed Relay Team.

The press release says..." ..it will be the first championships to stage the Marathon Race Walk Mixed Relay, and will serve as the primary qualification opportunity in that event ahead of this summer's Paris Olympics. The first 22 teams at the World Race Walk Team Championships Antalya 2024 shall automatically qualify for the Marathon Race Walk Mixed Relay event at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Up to five of the first 22 teams can be a second team of the same country.

Finn Valley's Brendan Boyce and West Waterford's Kate Veale will spear-head Ireland's challenge for qualification in this event, having partnered to achieve a 3:11:48 performance in Raheny on December 17th last. "

Kate Veale writes... "Delighted to be selected for the World Team Racewalking Championships in the marathon mixed relay alongside 3 time Olympian Breandán O'Buadhaigh

We are currently 11th on World Rankings from our performance in December. Top 22 teams in Turkey will get an automatic Olympic spot.

The last time we were together at these Championships was in 2012 in Russia. What a journey and story it has been since. Wishing @raymondoflynn could be with us. He has played a huge role in both our lives and will stay forever in our ❤️.

It’s always an honour to put on an Irish vest. We’re ready for war. I’ve learned from @brendanbound to love the misery. Bring it on. 💪🇮🇪

Thanks to everyone who has helped us, especially our  coaches @perskarlstrom and Robert Heffernan. It’s a team effort."
