Results & photos of the Cork City Marathon - Sun 1st June 2025

There were approximately 9400 finishers in this years Cork City Marathon event... 1945 in the full marathon, 3804 in the half-marathon and 3647 in the 10k.

The weather turned out to be a bit wetter than forecast but it was a case of light passing showers rather than anything serious. If anything, it kept things a bit on the cool side in contrast to some of the previous years where the sunshine and heat was an issue.

Results & Photos of the IMRA Garryduff Woods 6.5km race in Rochestown - Wed 3rd May 2023

Barry Twohig of St Finbarr's AC is the first man home in the IMRA trail race in Garryduff Woods

A total of 72 runners took part in this IMRA 6.5km trail race in Garryduff Woods on Wed 3rd May 2023. As can be seen from the photo above, it was a lovely sunny evening and ideal conditions for a trail race.

The photo above shows Barry Twohig who finished first but you'll also notice behind him that the trail is covered in tree roots. This section of woods was particularly tricky as the runners had to watch their footing like a hawk so as not to trip.

Results & Photos of the Great Railway Run 25km - Sun 16th Apr 2023

The Great Railway Run 25km race from Cork to Carrigaline was held on Sunday the 16th of April 2023 with 391 runners taking part. That figure is up a whopping 53% on the number for 2022 and is a sign of the recovery in race numbers since the pandemic.

In the men's race, the winner was Alan O'Shea and the top 3 were well spaced apart. The women's race by contrast was a much more contested affair. The photo above taken at roughly the halfway mark in Passage West shows Lorna Wolfe (376) with Nollaigh O'Neill (413). The 3rd placed woman Niamh Cronin is in the photo above with a white singlet with the orange stripe.

Results & Photos of the Cork City 10-miler - Sat 20th Aug 2022

First 3-women in the 2022 Cork City 10-miler (L-R) Fiona Santry (3rd), Shona Heaslip (1st) & Niamh Moore (2nd)

This years Cork City 10-miler was held on Saturday the 10th of August 2022 with 1054 runners crossing the finish line. This is almost identical to the 1045 in the last edition in 2019 which is a good showing most races are showing negative growth since the pandemic.

Someone did send me a message to say that they measured the course long at 10.12 miles but I suspect the tree coverage over the railway cutting in Blackrock might lead to some poor GPS coverage and inaccurate readings.

(Update: Someone said in the comments that the first mile was too long)

Results & Photos of the Great Glenville 4 mile run - Sun 24th Nov 2019

The rain held off just long enough for this years Glenville 4 mile race with most of the runners crossing the finish line before it arrived. Conditions were near perfect for racing... cool, dry with no wind.

The was a noticeable step up in the organisation of this years race as the organisers responded to the increased numbers. It's the small changes that are made every year that makes things run smoothly...i.e. better traffic management, more organised parking, finish road closed off and improved start.

It's safe to say that the Great Glenville Run is now one of the best organised races on the calendar. It probably should be no suprise that all 600 places sold out.

Note the dramatic increase in numbers in recent years
