Watergrasshill AC trip to the Malaga Marathon - Dec 2019

The Malaga Marathon and Half-Marathon in Spain was held this year on Sunday the 15th of December. As can be see from the photo and results below, a large contingent of runners from Watergrasshill AC made the trip.

Marathon... In the full 26.2 mile marathon, both Conor Mullane and Ken Crowley broke the 3-hour barrier with times of 2h 57m 03s and h 58m 54s respectively.

Results & Photos of the Great Glenville 4 mile run - Sun 24th Nov 2019

The rain held off just long enough for this years Glenville 4 mile race with most of the runners crossing the finish line before it arrived. Conditions were near perfect for racing... cool, dry with no wind.

The was a noticeable step up in the organisation of this years race as the organisers responded to the increased numbers. It's the small changes that are made every year that makes things run smoothly...i.e. better traffic management, more organised parking, finish road closed off and improved start.

It's safe to say that the Great Glenville Run is now one of the best organised races on the calendar. It probably should be no suprise that all 600 places sold out.

Note the dramatic increase in numbers in recent years

The annual Glenville 4 mile road race is coming up on Sunday the 24th of November 2019 and it should be of particular interest considering its proximity to Cork City.

Update: 6th Nov 2019...Over half of the entries are now gone.
Update: 13th Nov 2019... Fewer than 80 places left now.
Update: 14th Nov 2019... 1:30pm... The lights are now flashing on and off for last call... 10 places left!

Notice: Sports Nutrition Workshop in Watergrasshill - Fri 11th Oct 2019

Watergrasshill AC are hosting a Sports Nutrition workshop on Friday the 11th of October 2019. The venue is upstairs in the Fir Tree bar in the centre of Watergrasshill.

This might be of interest to many runners and the venue is just a few hundred metres off the M8 motorway.

From Watergrasshill AC... We are very excited to announce that Sharon Madigan, (Head of Performance Nutrition at the Sport Ireland Institute) is coming to join us at Watergrasshill AC on Friday 11th October at 7pm, upstairs in the Fir Tree, to impart some of her Nutritional expertise on us.

Perfectly timed with Dublin only a few weeks away, but also for anyone who is interested in how they can be fueling for training efficiently.

Charge of €5 per person, payable on the night.

Open to members & non members (€10 charge for non members)

Official launch of Watergrasshill Athletic Club

On Saturday the 29th of March, one of the newest clubs in Cork...Watergrasshill Athletic Club...was officially launched. Even though they are in existence for a few short months, they managed to field teams for the recent county novice road championships and the orange singlets can be regularly seen at most local road races.

Here is a short piece from their PRO...
The launch was an occasion to just " officially " kick off WGH AC and to mark it in some way. We had a great turn out from members and supporters alike with upwards of 90 people in attendance. On our invitation officers of the Cork County Board were also present to welcome us to Cork Athletics which we really appreciated. Included were Pat Buckley (chairman) Pat Walsh (Treasurer) Mary Meagher (comp secretary) and John Copithorne (registrar). A great night was had by all and the future looks bright for Watergrasshill AC.

Watergrasshill Athletic Club started out as a casual running club at the start of 2013 and have now registered with Athletics Ireland to become a formal athletics club. They have a registration night on Friday the 17th of Jan in Watergrasshill itself. Details below...
Our registration night for Watergrasshill AC is on next Friday night the 17th of January upstairs in the FirTree Bar between 8-9pm. Be part of Corks newest AC!! Registration is €50 for the year, for this you receive AAI registration, a team singlet/tee, goody bag on the night and of course enjoy the benefits of a club structure with scheduled training times and types. Registration forms are available on request and will be there on the night.
