Results of the Sheeps Head 10k in Ahakista...Sat 26th Mar 2016

The annual Sheeps Head 10k race was held in the small village of Ahakista on Saturday the 26th of March 2016. The numbers were down by a massive 46% this year, a pattern that is similar to the Ballydehob 10k which was held last Sunday.

At first, I thought the drop may have been to some wet weather but the race photos show that it was dry.

Results of the Sheeps Head 10k - Sat 7th Apr 2012

A total of 181 people took part in this new 10k road race in Ahakista on the Sheeps Head peninsula in West Cork. An unusual feature noted in the results was that roughly 54% of those that took part were women, well up on the usual 35% that you might see in most races.

The winner of the mens race was Don Keohane of Eagle AC in a time of 36:02, over a minute ahead of his nearest rival. The womens race was a much closer affair with only only 8 seconds between the first two. In the end, Maura Regan of Eagle AC finished ahead making it a double win for the Cork club.
