Notice...Cork BHAA Mount Oval Bar 6 mile road race - Thurs 19th June 2014

Since it first started, the Cork BHAA Mount Oval Bar 6 mile road race has been held on a Sunday morning in mid-November. In 2014, it has been changed to an evening event to coincide with the start of the Mount Oval Festival.

The race will be held on Thursday the 19th of June 2014 at 8pm. Organised in conjuntion with the Mount Oval Bar, this one is just to the south-east of the city on nice country roads and is very easy to get to.

Mount Oval is just off the N28 road to Carrigaline. It's very easy to get to from the South Ring Road in Cork City...

It certainly wouldn't be described as an easy 6 mile course as there are a number of hills. I use part of this course a lot on my own training runs for the simple reason that it's reasonably quiet and safe and it's in the countryside. Once the early hill is out of the way, the rest is pretty reasonable. On a nice sunny evening, some sections are really nice.

As with all Cork BHAA races, the entry fee for registered runners is just €5 and €8 for the non-reg.

Also please note that afterwards, there is a complimentary BBQ to all runners and race stewards! ;o)

As part of the Mount Oval Festival, the race on the Thursday will be followed by a Craft Beer Fest on Friday the 20th and Family Fun Day on Saturday 21st.

They are also looking for some race stewards if you can help out? Contact Greg Moore at 021 4898162.

Category results of the Cork BHAA Mount Oval 6 mile...Sun 20th Nov 2011

Somewhere around 200 runners turned out for this 6 mile race near Rochestown to the south of Cork City. Starting and finishing in the residential area of Mount Oval, the race followed a hilly route to the south taking in some quiet and some busy roads. Appearently there was a problem with lack of stewards at one road junction ~4.5 miles which resulted in some runners going the wrong way which wasn't great.

The category results are below. The full results are now HERE.
