Cork County Council recently allocated over €225,000 to community groups, voluntary organisations, sporting groups and residents associations through the Ballincollig-Carrigaline Municipal District of Cork County Council.
Togher AC managed to secure a grant of €4000. The club has been a regular recipient of grants of this nature and it shows that there are sources of funding out there from local and national bodies.
It's worth mentioning however that Togher AC have their own premises which is often a requirement for some grants.
The full list of grants can be seen on Cllr. Marcia Dalton's website HERE
The polls for the best 5k race in Cork in 2017 closed recently and thanks to everyone who took the time to vote. The Togher AC 5k race at Christmas got almost 40% of the vote and came out on top again after winning in 2016 as well.
The Bweeng 5k race finished 2nd while the Conna 5k race which is a real community affair finished 3rd.
Togher AC have grown their 5k race from scratch and the numbers have grown over the years. It has now overtaken the Belgooly race to become the most popular race in Cork over the festive period.
The Togher 5k road race was the final race of of 2017 and it ended on a high with a record 575 finishers, up a whopping 33% on last year.
As can be seen from the graphic above, this was the 5th year of this race and the growth has been impressive for the last two year.
I kind of noticed that the post I had up on the site for the race got several thousand views over the last month but I certainly didn't expect anything like 33%. What's even more remarkable was that the weather was awful for the race. If it had been a nice sunny dry day then the numbers could have been even higher.

A bit of sad news this time with the announcement of the passing of Ted Murray of Togher AC.
Ted Murray was one of the founding members of Togher AC and was its first chairman. A native of Ballinacarriga Dunmanway in West Cork, Ted competed with Rising Sun AC and Meelin AC winning three senior cross country medals...Rising Sun 1958, Meelin 1661,1962. Ted was also a member of the Cork team which won the first Munster novice Championship. He later served as Chairman of the County Board for three years. In recent times, he was the the Honourary Presedent of Togher AC.
