2019 Inch Festival 5k cancelled

Someone was asking me about the Inch Festival 5k race in Mount Uniacke near Killeagh in East Cork and whether it was on this year. I checked with the organisers who confirmed that it wasn't.

As can be seen from the chart above, it peaked in 2016 but went into decline over the next two years.

There does seem to be a define contraction in the number of races now on the calendar. So far in 2019, we have seen the Blackwater 10 mile, Clonakilty 10 mile, Shannonvale 10k and Carrigtwohill 5k races go and there are probably a few more that don't spring to mind.

On the Cork BHAA front, the Merck and CPO races were cancelled.

Will there be more in 2020?

Results of the Inch Festival 5k in Mount Uniacke... Fri 29th June 2018

A total of 92 runners turned out for this years Inch Festival 5k in Mount Uniake near Killagh. As can be seen from the chart above, there has been quite a drop in numbers since 2016.

It mirrors a number of other races recently that have shown drops as there seems to be a definite softening in race numbers. Any race that can maintain its numbers at the moment is doing well.

There was a record 164 finishers in this years Inch Festival 5k race in Mount Uniacke in East Cork on Friday the 12th of August 2016. This represents a jump of 23% on the 2015 numbers and goes very much against the downward trend of so many other races this year.

Notice...Mount Uniacke 5km race - Fri 12th Aug 2016

The annual Mount Uniacke 5k race is coming up near Killeagh in East Cork on Friday the 12th of August 2016.

From the organisers...Inch Festival Mount Uniacke 5 km Road race and walk ...in aid of the Inch Community Centre Renovation Fund

Date: Friday August 12th 2016
Time: Race 7.30pm 
Walk: 6.30pm

Registration from 6pm in Mount Uniacke.

The fifth annual Mount Uniacke 5 km road race takes place on Friday, August 12th at 7.30pm

Mount Uniacke is a small village about 3 miles north of Killeagh in East Cork.

The race now in its fifth year has proved very popular with athletes, fun runners and joggers as it is an undulating course which is a great training ground for the longer races at the end of the season.

Accurate timing is provided by the Ballycotton Running Promotions’ team and a very friendly cup of tea and refreshments are provided after the race.

Entry fee is only €8

Directions from Cork: Going towards Youghal go through Castlemartyr and onto Killeagh.  Take left at The Thatch pub in Killeagh and continue for 3 miles until you reach Mount Uniacke.
