Notice: Strength & Conditioning Workshop for Female Athletes - 3rd Mar 2026


Cork Sports Partnership in association with MTU are holding a strength and conditioning workshop for female athletes on Tues 3rd March 2026 at 6:30pm.

Strength and conditioning is something that a lot of runners neglect but it can play an important part in running form and in injury prevention. Considering the class only costs €5.30, it's for nothing.

Sports First Aid Training Course in Cork City - Sep & Nov 2025


Cork Sports Partnership are organising a series of  Sports First Aid courses in Cork City on Sunday the 21st of September and Sunday 16th of November 2025. They run from about 9:30am to 3:30pm and they cost €40 per person.

Considering the modest fee, a lot of clubs might consider paying for some of their members to attend.

The courses will be held at the Old Cork Waterworks Experience Events Centre on the Lee Road which is about 400m west of Thomas Davis Bridge.

Sports First Aid Training Course in Cork City - 2024


Cork Sports Partnership are organising a series of  Sports First Aid courses in Cork City on six dates in 2024. They run from about 9:30am to 3:30pm and they cost €42.40.

The Rebel Run 5k & 10k is coming up on Sunday 22nd October 2023 at MTU Bishopstown in Cork City. The 5k starts at 9.30am with the 10k starting at 9.45am.

New 2k junior parkrun planned for Ballinlough - Sept 2022


Update 15th September 2022: This new 2k junior parkrun was due to start in September of 2022. This has now been delayed. Hopefully it will be up and running by Christmas but no firm date has been announced yet. 

Update 19th July 2022: Back in December of 2021, I announced that there were plans for a junior 2k parkrun in Ballinlough. Things have been ticking away behind the scenes and it now looks as if it will start in September of 2022!

They have a team of 12 volunteers assembled and they are looking for more.

December 2021: Some great news! Cork Sports Partnership are looking at setting up a new junior parkrun in Ballinlough Park in Cork City.

This will be held at 9:30am every Sunday morning and is aimed at children aged 4 to 14 years old.

The course is 2kms in length and everything is free!

At the moment, there are just two junior parkruns in Cork (Cobh & Ballinlough) but there really should be many more.

Notice: Rebel Run 10k & 5k in Cork City - Sun 7th Nov 2021


The Rebel Run 5k & 10k is coming up on Sunday 7th November 2021 at MTU (a.k.a CIT) Bishopstown in Cork City. The 5k starts at 9.30am with the 10k starting at 9.45am.

This is a very popular event and is organised by Cork Sports Partnership, MTU Sports Department and Leisureworld. The numbers are limited this year so it is likely to sell out faster than usual. 

From Cork Sports Partnership... "The Cork Rebel Run first took place in October 2012 and has grown to become a popular event on the running calendar in Cork ever since. Organised by Cork Sports Partnership, MTU Sports Department/Athletics Club and Leisureworld Cork, the event has grown over the years to now host over 1000 participants annually.

The addition of the inclusive Rebel Run a Mile programme and a number of community Couch25Ks over the last few years ensures that people of all abilities and fitness levels are part of the Cork Rebel Run events. 

The Cork Rebel Run will take place on Sunday November 7th 2021. To ensure a safe and enjoyable return numbers are limited so early registration is advised."  


The event will have chip timing and there is also a dry fit top for all participants.

Notice...Rebel Run 10k & 5k in Cork City - Sun 22nd Oct 2017




This 10 km & 5km road race is coming up in Bishopstown on Sunday, the 22nd of October 2017 at 9:30am.

This is going to be of interest to a lot of people for a number of reasons.....
1) There aren't that many 10k races really on the calendar. Loads of 5k and 5 mile races but fast 10k courses are a bit thin on the ground.
2) In Bishopstown in Cork City so it is central to a lot of people.
3) Dry-fit top included in the early entry fee for both the 5k and 10k.

From Cork Sports Partnership...Cork Sports Partnership recently launched the 2017 Rebel Run at the CIT Athletics Track with new sponsors Cork City Council and Cork County Council. The Cork Rebel Run will take place on Sunday October 22nd 2017 from CIT in Bishopstown.

Cork Sports Partnership along with event partners LeisureWorld Bishopstown and Cork Institute of Technology - CIT are delighted to have both Cork City Council and Cork County Council on board for 2017 and look forward to working with them in the lead up to the event.

Speaking of the launch, Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald said he “is delighted that Cork City Council is supporting the Rebel Run and encouraging increased levels of physical activity, which may even lead to participating in the Cork City Marathon next June.” Similarly “Deputy Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Declan Daly, mentioned how happy the Council is to again be a part of The Cork Rebel Run. “The positive impact physical activity of any kind has on mental health and wellbeing at all ages is hugely significant and it is an area that Cork County Council is concentrating on more and more".

The 2017 event promises to be a great experience, with the course being accurately measured by Jones counter, chip timing for all runners, a scenic rolling course & goody bags including your 2017 Cork Rebel Run T-shirt. The 10K event also has a huge array of prizes up for grabs on the day, and will prove attractive to runners of all levels and abilities. Participant spot prizes will also be given to the 5K participants. The organising partners of Cork Sports Partnership, Leisureworld and CIT with the assistance of the An Garda SΓ­ochΓ‘na and Athletics Ireland hope that friends & family will come along on the day, cheering from the grandstand to support the runners in the final straight.

Notice...2015 Rebel Run 4 Fun 5k Series - Event 1 : Sat 20th June 2015 Blarney

Following on from the success of the inaugural Rebel Run4Fun 5k Series last year, Cork Sports Partnership are holding another set of 3 races this year.

There are three 5k events in the series...There is a 5k race with chip timing on Saturday 20th of June and Sunday 26th of July. These cost €10 each if you pre-enter online. Entry on the day is €15. These are very much similar to the usual type of race.

The third race is in Fota Gardens on Sunday 23rd Aug and this costs €5 to pre-enter online or €10 on the day. There is no chip timing with this one and it's aimed more at beginners and families.


From the organisers.........INDIVIDUAL ENTRY TO EVENT 1 IS €10, EVENT 2 €10 AND EVENT 3 €5. Series Promotion: Sign up for all 3 events for €30 and get a series souvenir t-shirt. Promotion open until Friday 19th June 2015.

(PARTICIPANTS MUST BE 16YRS+ TO TAKE PART IN THE CHIP TIMED EVENTS (EVENTS 1 & 2)  EVENT 3 IS OPEN TO ALL AGES AND IS NOT CHIP TIMED (CHILDREN UNDER 16 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT)

On the day registration will cost €15  for chip-timed events (June 20th & July 26th) and €10 for non chip timed event (Aug 23rd).

Signing In for the Events : Pre-Registered Partipants will collect their timing chip and event number at each venue on the morning of the event from 8.45am. Sign in will be open from 8.45am until 9.30am with the events starting at 10am Sharp. Participants that are registering on the morning are asked to arrive in plenty time to register their details and get their timing chip/event number.

The first race of the series is on Saturday the 20th of June at the Castleview Running Trail in Blarney. This is an gently undulating looped course on a grass and compact gravel surface. I had a post up about this opening back in Sept 2014.

Sports Ability Day...UCC Mardyke Arena...Sat 18th Apr 2015

From the Cork Sports Partnership.....Irish Olympians to visit Cork for SportsAbility Day.

John Treacy, CEO of the Irish Sports Council will accompany Orla Barry, Paralympic medalist in opening the activities at the event being held in the UCC Mardyke Arena on April 18th (12 to 3pm)

This event is organised by the Cork SportsAbility Forum and Cork Sports Partnership with the aim of creating awareness and promotion of sport for people with disabilities in Cork. It promises to be an action packed day with demonstrations and come & try sessions from a range of different sports including wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, amputee football, special yoga, table tennis and blind football to name just a few. Also on the day will be a variety of information stands from different disability sports clubs and organisations available in Cork. Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in come & try sessions in many different sports. This event is suitable for parents, people with disabilities, healthcare professionals, teachers, SNA’s, students, youth club leaders, sports coaches and anyone with an interest in promoting sport for people with disabilities. 

The Cork SportsAbility Forum are delighted to announce that there new Ambassador, Paralympic Medalist Orla Barry will be in attendance at this year’s event, along with CEO of the Irish Sports Council John Treacy, Minister Kathleen Lynch, Cork’s Lord Mayor  Mary Shields and the Mayor of County Cork Cllr Alan Coleman.

Activities will begin at 12 noon and continue until 3pm. Come along and be part of the movement to promote sport for people with disabilities. Admission is free of charge and parking is available at the Sacred Heart Parish Church, Western Road, Cork. Results of the Rebel Run4Fun 5k, Ballincollig...Sat 20th Sept 2014

A total of 173 people turned out for the third and final race in the Rebel Run4Fun 5k series in Ballincollig on Saturday 20th Sept 2014. This series was organised by the Cork Sports Partnership with the aim of highlighting the Ballincollig Regional Park as an area for recreational use for runners and walkers.

Reminder...Rebel Run4Fun 5k in Ballincollig - Sun 17th Aug 2014


There is an 5k fun run on the Sunday 17th of August which costs €5 if you pre-enter online before midnight on Friday the 15th of August (€15 on the day). The race starts at 10am. There is no chip timing for this event but Ballincollig AC will be recording times in the usual manual fashion and producing a set of results. This is more geared towards absolute beginners who might find the thought of doing a race a bit intimidating.

There will also be a 2k option for kids as its being promoted as a family fun run. Participants will get a medal on completing the event.

Refreshments of water, fruit and cereal bars sponsored by Lidl are available after each event.

Info evening...Preparing for your first 5k...Wed 23rd July 2014

If you are just starting off running or have plans to start then should be of interest to you. As part of the new Rebel Run4Fun 5k series in Ballincollig in July, August and September, the Cork Sports Partnership have organised an information evening on preparing for your first 5k race.

WHEN: Wednesday July 23rd 2014.
WHERE: The Runners Loft, Mahers Sports, Oliver Plunket Street, Cork City
TIME: 6.30pm - 8.30pm.
FOR WHO: Everyone, beginners especially welcome or those taking part in their first 5k.
€5 booking fee- Pre-Register HERE.

MINIMUM NUMBERS WILL BE REQURIED FOR THE SESSION TO GO AHEAD.

One of the speakers on the night will be Noel Berkeley who represented Ireland at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Noel has also won the Ballycotton 10 numerous times over the years and has a best time of 47:17 for the 10 mile course.

Note that the entry fee is only €5. If you enter all 3 races in the Rebel Run4Fun 5k Series then it's free.

Many of you will have seen 'running classes' being advertised on posters or on the net. A typical price might be something like €45 for 10 classes or €5 per class. Compare that to the price of this short seminar where you'll be advised by a former Olympic athlete. Any hints or tips that you'll pick up will be well worth it as you start your running career.

This talk would also be very suitable for any women who have their eye on the Womens mini-marathon coming up in September.
