Cork runners who have completed 250 or more 5k parkruns - Q1 2026

The parkrun organisation have a number of milestones going from 25 to 500 parkruns. The thing about milestones is that they are open to everyone and anyone can aspire to reach a certain level.

A number of people have recently passed the 250 mark and it's a significant achievement as it takes at least five years to complete. Thanks to all those who sent on updates and corrections.

Cork 250 Rules... As with any list, there must be some sort of guideline or rules. The criteria I went with are simple...

  1. At least 100 of the 5k parkruns must be in Co Cork
  2. Only the information on the parkrun website counts
I'm sure there are plenty of people in Dublin and elsewhere who are over 250 but this post is about the parkruns in Cork.

***

Cork runners who have completed 250 or more 5k parkruns Club - Q1 2026... Since the end of March 2026, an additional seven people have passed the 250 parkrun mark.

The top 3 are from Bere Island and it looks likely that Joanne Sullivan will be the first person in Cork to reach the 500 milestone and that's might be in August of 2026. Macroom is the oldest parkrun in Co Cork and it's well represented in the list above.

The second half of the list from 250 to 340 is shown below...

At the moment, there are 69 people with 250 or more parkruns completed. Going back to when I started the list, it was people who had pretty much completed nearly all of their local parkruns. Now we're reaching a stage where more and more people will start reaching 250 and the list will eventually get huge and it will get a lot harder to track everyone.

I'll probably change to something like the top 100 in the future once we reach that point instead of just hitting 250.

Volunteers... As always, it's the army of parkrun volunteers that keep the show on the road and the 'super volunteers' have 250 or more credits.

Prionnsias O'Keeffe and Tony Cooney have joined the list since the end of 2025. Maretta Brennan is on track to reach the 500 volunteer milestone sometime in April of 2026.

This list is very much the tip of the iceberg in terms of the number of volunteers who help out on Saturday mornings to make sure the parkruns can go ahead.

Errors & Omissions... If you know of any runner of volunteer from Cork missing who might at 250 or more, leave a comment with their name and parkrun number.

Cork runners who have completed 250 or more 5k parkruns Club - Q4 2025... Since the end of 2025, the number of people in Cork who have completed 250 or more 5k parkruns has gone from 39 to 62 in the space of a year.

The top 3 are from Bere Island and it looks likely that Joanne Sullivan will be the first person in Cork to reach the 500 milestone and that's likely to be in the autumn of 2026.

Macroom is the oldest parkrun in Co Cork and it's well represented in the list above.

With 20 more people joining the list in 2025, it's starting to get longer and longer. It will probably reach a stage where trying to keep track of everyone becomes too unwieldy.

Volunteers... Needless to say, it's the army of parkrun volunteers that keep the show on the road and the 'super volunteers' have 250 or more credits.

This has gone from 11 at the end of 2024 to 17 at the end of 2025. With the dual volunteer credits from both the 5k parkrun and the junior 2k parkrun, Maretta Brennan is on track to reach the 500 volunteer milestone sometime in the spring of 2026.

This list is very much the tip of the iceberg in terms of the number of volunteers who help out on Saturday mornings to make sure the parkruns can go ahead.

Cork runners who have completed 250 or more 5k parkruns Club - Q3 2025... The end of September 2025 was the end of Q3 so it's time to check up on who is on the 250 plus parkrun list.

Joanne Sullivan continues to lead the top Bere Island trio with 453 5k parkruns completed and it seems likely that there will be a blue 500 t-shirt on Bere Island in late 2026.

Olive McCarthy of Glen River has been busy racking up the parkruns and now moves up two places from 13th to 11th place.

Mary Hourihane, Maria Neville & Ursula Cooney move above 320 and into the top half of the 250-plus list which is shown above.

The second half of the list from 250 to 319 is shown below.

Since the end of June 2025 (Q2), six people have passed the 250 mark and joined the list... Eddie O'Carroll, Maria Madigan, Sam De Lint, Breeda O'Sullivan, Noël Healy & Jerry O'Keeffe.

Needless to say, it's the army of parkrun volunteers that keep the show on the road and the 'super volunteers' have 250 or more credits.

With the dual volunteer credits from both the 5k parkrun and the junior 2k parkrun, Maretta Brennan is rapidly closing the gap to 1st place. Maretta racked up 20 volunteer credits in the last quarter and if she continues then we should see a blue 500 volunteer t-shirt in Ballincollig in the summer of 2026.

The volunteer list grows by three to sixteen with Suzi Quirke & Donal Fennessy of the Ballincollig parkrun and John Hutchins of the Castlehaven parkrun joining.

Errors & Omissions... If you know of any runner of volunteer from Cork missing who might at 250 or more, leave a comment with their name and parkrun number.

Cork runners who have completed 250 or more 5k parkruns Club - Q2 2025... The end of June 2025 was the end of Q2 so it's time to check up on who is on the 250 plus parkrun list.

Joanne Sullivan continues to lead the charge with 440 5k parkruns completed and is on track to reach the magic 500 mark sometime in the autumn of 2026.

The one change in the top 3 is Finola Crowley jumps into third place so Bere Island now fills the top three spots.

The only addition to the top 250 list is Enda Kiernan of the Macroom parkrun so the list now has 47 names.

Needless to say, it's the army of parkrun volunteers that keep the show on the road and the 'super volunteers' have 250 or more credits.

The change in the top three is that Maretta Brennan of the Ballincollig parkrun now moves up into second place. The volunteer list grows by two to thirteen with Donal O'Donoghue of the Glen River parkrun and Pawel Switaj of the Ballincollig parkrun joining.

Errors & Omissions... If you know of any runner of volunteer missing who might at 250 or more at the end of March 2025, leave a comment with their name and parkrun.

Back at the end of Dec 2024, the list went from 33 to 41 and now at the end of Q1 2025, it has increased to 48 names.

The number of people at 300 or above has gone from 23 to 26 and a few have passed the 300 mark under the radar.

This is the list of volunteers who have 250 or more credits...

Volunteers are literally the glue that keep the parkruns going week after week... no volunteers - no parkruns.

Back at the end of Sept 2024, the list went from 27 to 33 and it has now increased to 41 names.

At the end of Q3, Joanne Sullivan of Bere Island was the only person to break the 400 mark. By the end of Q4, three more have passed 400... two from Bere Island and one at Macroom.

The number of people at 300 or above has gone from 17 to 23 and a few have passed the 300 mark under the radar.

Again, Bere Island is very much to the fore with the volunteer list with 5 names. Ballincollig is now up to 3 names. Castlehaven and Glen River have one name each.

The list has increased from 27 to 33 and as can be seen, the big hitters are regulars at the Bere Island and Macroom events. They're still about 100 shy of the 500 milestone mark so the earliest anyone can reach that target is probably late 2026.

Cork 250 parkrun Club - Q4 2023

Every Saturday after putting up the 5k parkrun results for Co Cork, I have a look to see if anyone has completed 100 parkruns. It takes at least two years to reach this level and it's worth noting.

The parkrun organisation have a number of milestones from 25 to 500 parkruns. The thing about milestones is that they are open to everyone and anyone can aspire to reach a certain level.

A number of people have recently passed the 250 mark and it's a significant achievement as it takes at least five years to complete. At the end of 2023, I compiled a list of runners and volunteers in Co Cork who have passed the magic figure.

Errors & Omissions... Digging out all of the names and totals took a fair bit of work and I almost certainly missed some. If you know of any runner of volunteer missing who might at 250 or more, leave a comment with their name and parkrun.

This is the first attempt at this so the next one should include a few more.
