Results of the Ballydehob 10k road race...Sun 20th Mar 2016



The annual Ballydehob 10k road race in West Cork was held on Sunday the 20th of March 2016. Despite the dry weather, there was a huge drop of 54% in numbers this year with just 60 runners in the 10k. This is a big change from a few years back when it used to attract about 200 runners.

Results of the Ballydehob 10k...Sun 15th Mar 2015

A total of 131 runners turned out for this 10k race in Ballydehob in West Cork.

The numbers seemed a bit low so I compared them to previous years...


Possibly it's a sign of how things have changed over the last few years? A few years back, a 10k race in Co.Cork might well be the only event on that weekend. Now, there are loads to choose from. For example, this weekend there were multiple 5k parkruns, at least 2 fun runs, an adventure race in Killarney and a half and full marathon in Tralee. It's a bit like the size of the pie is the same but the slices are getting thinner.

Results of the Ballydehob 10k run...Sun 17th Mar 2013

There seems to have been a big drop in numbers this year for the annual Ballydehob 10k road race. In the last two years, they got 205 in 2011 and 235 in 2012. This year, it has dropped to 146.

Results of the Ballydehob 10k - Sat 17th March 2012

The numbers were up this year with 235 runners taking part in this 10k road race in Ballydehob in west Cork, an increase of 15% on the figure of 205 for 2011. The mens race was won by Stephen Cleary in 33:57 with Maura Regan of Eagle AC winning the ladies race in 40:28.

Race notice...Run West Cork 10k - Sat 17th March 2012

On Saturday the 17th of March, there is a 10k race in Ballydehob in west Cork. Located just 10 kms or so west of Skibbereen, it might be of interest to runners in that general area....



The race starts at 11am and entries on the day will be taken at the local community centre. If you are coming from Bantry or Skibbereen, you will enter Ballydehob from the east. There will be a small park on your left and you'll see the iconic old 12 arch railway bridge in the distance...

After you cross over the hump backed bridge, take the first left, drive 100 metres and the community hall is on your right. See map...

Notes...
The course starts in Ballydehob, heading out along the coast run to Rossbrin beside Roaringwater Bay with its many islands, and then returning to the village again.
Entry fee is €15
Chip timing.
T-shirts will be awarded to the first 100 finishers.
Transition point at 5k for teams of two.
Separate walkers’ category in the St Patrick’s Day 10km.
Walkers will start at 10.30 , Runners will start at 11.00

Results of the Ballydehob 10k road race - Thurs 17th Mar 2011

This 10 km road race in West Cork had an entry of 205 runners on what was supposed to be a challenging course with some serious hills in it. One competitor described it as..."Over all a very nice scenic run but not one for a personal best."

The mens race was won by Michael Dullea in 36:14 while the ladies race was won by Liz Barry in 42:01.

Other races in Cork on the 17th of March...Ballydehob 10k

The main race in the county of Cork on St.Patricks Day is the 4 mile road race in Ballinhassig organised by Rising Sun AC at 11am. With it's proximity to Cork City and the fact that it is doubling as the Cork AAI County Road Championships, it is sure to attract a big crowd.

However for anyone living further west, there is a 10 km race in Ballydehob. Some details below...
Entry is €13.00 and all proceeds will go to local schools and Co-Action West Cork.
Registration: 8.30 AM - 10.30 AM

10K Race: 11.00 AM
The course will start in Ballydehob, heading out along the coast run to Rossbrin beside Roaringwater Bay with its many islands, and then returning to the village again.
St Patrick's Day Parade starting at 12.30 followed by live music performed by local bands and musicians.
