Results of the Ballinotois 4-mile road race - Thurs 23rd Apr 2026

The 2026 edition of the Ballintotis 4-mile road race was held on Thurs 23rd of April in almost perfect conditions.

A total of six athletes managed to break 20 minutes which shows the quality of the field including Niamh Allen pictured above who set a new national record for the distance.

There were almost 1200 finishers this year and almost identical to 2025. As the chart below shows, it was the third highest ever and the last three years have been very good with pretty much 1200 every year.

A typical club race might get something like 300 runners so the Ballintotis numbers just show how exceptional it is.

Race day info for the Ballintotis 4-mile race on Thurs 18th April 2024

The big evening race in Cork this week is the Ballintotis 4-mile near Castlemartyr. This one always gets a big crowd and this year will be no different.

Note the change in car parks below, everything now is to the east of the church.

You can still enter online HERE

From the organisers... It's been a busy few weeks in Ballintotis as the local committee advance plans for this year's 4 Mile Road Race, which is set to bring huge crowds to the picturesque venue this Thursday.  Bad weather has obviously hampered plans for a number of weeks, but once again the local community have come to the fore in various ways.

This year, all participants are asked to please take special note of the traffic arrangements and the location of CAR PARKS, some of  which have changed from previous years,  In particular, motorists travelling from the Midleton direction, should be aware that their access point to the venue will for the most part of the evening,  be at the CASTLEMARTYR SIDE of Loughaderra Lake.  There is no right turn from the Main Road to Race HQ.

A special appeal is sent to everybody to please make a big effort to carpool and because of the large entry, please arrive early. Car parks will open at 5.30pm.

2024 will see the Ballintotis Race incorporate the County Road Championships for the first time ever, which will add an extra dimension to this huge sporting and social occasion

Some great action is expected in the race itself with many well known names in the line up.   Whilst the majority of entries have now been received online,  limited walk-in entries will also be taken from 1pm up until 7.30pm in Ballintotis on race day.  Number collection is available at the same time and entries/number collection is also open from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday evening.

We urge as many people as possible to make use of these extended times for number pick up.

Before all the race action at 8pm, it's a 6pm  start for the community walk, with refreshments served immediately afterwards for walkers on their return  to the Community Centre.

Runners will receive their buff once they cross the finish line, whilst refreshments as usual will be served in Ballintotis Community Centre.  Prize giving will take place in the marquess at the front of the Community Centre at approx 9.10pm.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Ballintotis on Thursday evening.

Notice: Ballintotis 4 mile road race - Thurs 21st Apr 2022

You know Summer is on the way when we start talking about evening races! The Ballintotis 4-mile in East Cork is coming up on  Thursday the 21st of April at 8pm.

Entries... These open on Friday 4th February. Link... https://www.myrunresults.com/events/ballintotis_4_mile_road_race/4360/details

Info from the organisers... The 11th running of the  Ballintotis 4 mile road race, hosted by Ballintotis Area Community Council and held in association with East Cork AC, will take place this year on Thursday April 21st (starting time 8pm.)   The organising committee are delighted to be back again on the race calendar, following the enforced break due to the covid pandemic  in 2020 and 2021.

In 2010, the first staging of the race took place and attracted 425 runners, a figure which at that time well exceeded the organisers' expectations.

Our last race in 2019 which was our 10th anniversary race saw a record breaking 1240 finishers.

That aforementioned 2010 race got fund raising underway for Ballintotis Community Centre which has since been built and is now the hub of the race.. The event formerly took place in Castlemartyr, but East Cork AC moved the race to Ballintotis, which has proved a hugely popular location, with the venue boasting in excess of 1,000 participants on a number of occasions. The scenic 4 mile loop includes a lap of road bordering Loughaderra Lake in the closing stages.

Great Prize List... Again this year's race offers great value for money with a very attractive prize structure overall and a full list of category prizes in all age groups (1st 2nd and 3rd) as well as the opportunity to win one of the many spot prizes on offer.

Castlemartyr Resort will again sponsor the top prize of overnight accomodation for 2 people both the male and female winners.

Trabolgan Holiday Village have again confirmed that they will sponsor a  Family Weekend Away or Mid Week stay for both the race runner up and ladies runner up.   Once more Garryvoe Hotel Leisure Centre have come on board with a magnificent prize for the third runners home, in the shape of six months membership to their superb facility.

As well as the famous Ballintotis Buff again kindly sponsored by Simon Ahern of  Ahern's Centra, J.J Coppingers', Midleton are again on board to help sponsor a goody bag for all finishers.

Registration Update... Registration is open on line from Friday February 4th.   Registration costs 15 euro  including service charge, with the option of  availing of your race number being posted out for an additional cost (+€2.50).  Alternatively you may collect your number on race day in Ballintotis Community Centre from 1pm onwards.

Please enter   on  www.myrunresults.com

Exciting Race History

In the inaugural race James McCarthy took top spot with a time of 19:54. McCarthy went onto win the race a remarkable eight times in a row, his best time being 19:23 set in 2016. Then in 2018 ... a new man was on the podium as another East Cork A.C competitor Michael Harty won in style and in the process set a new course record of 19:15, with the previous record also being broken by Sergiu Ciobanu who was runner up. Our last race in 2019 saw a new name on the roll of honour - as yet another East Cork Man - Kevin O'Brien broke the tape in a time of 20.13.

The entry was a remarkable 1,170 runners in 2015.  Irish Olympian Sonia O Sullivan was among those taking part  that year following up on her previous visit in 2013.

Fellow Olympian Lizzy Lee from Leevale is the ladies course record holder (21:22), with her Irish International colleague Claire McCarthy posting the second fastest time around the course.   Fiona Santry of East Cork A.C made it back to wins in the ladies race in 2019 to complete a fine double..

Where it all began - the start of the very first Ballintotis 4 Mile Road Race in 2010.

The success of the Ballintotis event which was brought to the picturesque venue by East Cork A.C in 2010, is due to a number of factors. It's fair to say that the generous sponsorship and backing from the local business community has been a key component in it's rise and with this in mind, the local Ballintotis Race Committee wish to acknowledge again the wonderful backing of the their sponsors.

Here are some updates and advice for those taking part  this year in the race or walk or indeed coming to watch the action.

Car Parks
There will be a number of  main Car Parks for runners and walkers and these will be located in close proximity to the Race HQ at Ballintotis Community Centre. At various times, different Car Parks may be prioritised to cater for traffic flow - so the advise is to please follow the instructions of gardai and stewards who will be on duty. In relation to the Car Parks on race route – cars  will not be allowed exit until all runners have passed.

Race Start/Finish
The race begins at 8pm sharp – the Start Line is approx 200 meters from the Church on way to the main Road. The Finish Line is in front of the Church. ALL RUNNERS ARE ASKED TO BEGIN THE RACE IN THE TIME ZONE, WHICH REFLECTS THEIR EXPECTED FINISHING TIME. The year’s race is again chipped timed by Ronan Wogan and the team at myrunresults and as always there will be with timing mats at the start and finish line.

Results & Photos of the Ballintotis 4 mile road race...Thurs 19th Apr 2018

It seemed only appropriate that the warmest day of the year so far in 2018 also coincided with the first major race of the Summer road race season in Cork with a whopping 826 runners taking part. Conditions were almost perfect with some nice sunshine for the whole race, something we haven't seen a lot of of late.

It was also a big race for East Cork AC after two of their members took the respective titles. Michael Harty's time of 19:15 was also a new course record while Fiona Santry won the women's race for the first time.

Launch of the Ballintotis 4 mile road race coming up on Thurs 19th April 2018

Press release : All Set For The Ballintotis '4' Mile Road Race On April 19th

Ready for road - race sponsors and members of the organising committee gather in Ballintotis to announce final details of this year's Ballintotis 4 Mile Road Race which will be held on Thursday April 19th 2018.

With just two weeks to go to the 9th running of the Ballintotis '4' Mile Road Race, preparations are advancing at pace ahead of what promises to be another great sporting occasion.  In the last few days the Organising Committee hosted a Pre Race Sponsors Photo Call by the Lakeside. It was an occasion to acknowledge the continued outstanding support being rendered by the local business community to a race that is now firmly established as one of the high points of the Cork road running scene.

In the region of 1,000 participants regularly head to the start line for the 8pm start.  Again this year's race will be preceded by the very popular Walk, which also has it's usual start time of 6.30pm. The Ballintotis '4' Mile Road Race is held annually in association with East Cork A.C who made the generous gesture to relocate the race to this venue back in 2010 as Ballintotis Area Community Council went about their fund raising ventures for their proposed Community Centre..  So far James McCarthy from the promoting club has been unbeatable, having won all previous 8 races in Ballintotis. The ladies race has seen a host of winners including Claire McCarthy and Lizzie Lee in the last two years, both of whom incidentally performed with great distinction for Ireland recently in the World Half Marathon Championships.

On line entry for this year's Ballintotis 4 Mile Road Race is now open and will remain open until April 16th.  The organisers would ask as many people as possible to register in advance. By doing so, you will make life easier for both the committee and for yourself on the day of the race. Please log on to www.ballintotis.com and follow the link to enter.  Race numbers can be collected between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday April 18th and again on Race Day from 1pm at Ballintotis Community Centre.

If you choose not avail of on line registration - please note that entries will also be taken from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday April 18th and from 1pm on race day at Ballintotis Community Centre.
The race committee are delighted to welcome Ahern's Centra on board as one the main sponsors of the event. Notice...Ballintotis 4 mile road race in East Cork - Thurs 19th Apr 2018

After a long winter of dark evenings, it's time to look ahead to the upcoming summer season of evening road races. In Cork, the tradition was been that the Ballintotis 4 mile opens the summer season of evening races and the Ballycotton 5 at the end of August used to bring it to a close.

This year, the Ballintotis 4 mile will be held on Thursday the 19th of April 2018 at 8pm. Last year, they  managed to attract almost 900 runners which is a huge number for an evening road race.

They will have timing mats at the start and finish line so everyone will get an accurate time.
