While many runners are still recovering from the 2023 event, entries for the 2024 Dublin Marathon next October are about to open.
The conditions are shown above. The key point is that 2023 registered participants will be given priority access for 2024 and should enter straight away.
The lottery for everyone else opens on the 2nd of November and closes on the 19th.

If you've never done the Dublin marathon before then it really is a special event. It's at the right time of year for good times as it's cool and there are always large crowds of runners and spectators.
There are lots of other regional marathons like Cork, Waterford, Galway, Belfast & Limerick but Dublin really is the national marathon.
Update: Just a quick note on the €5 lottery fee. Last year, they charged €10 and refunded €7 if the applicant was unsuccessful. i.e. the cost was €3. This year, the cost is €5.

Everyone should have a fair opportunity in the lottery and stop prioritising those who ran the marathon the previous year. The lottery should be open to everyone especially those who never ran Dublin marathon. Charging €5 for the lottery entry is just plain greedy and more so if the entry is unsuccessful.
I don't get the obsession with people running Marathons, running a fast 5k, 10k or 10 miler is a better reflection of an athlete with good speed & endurance. It seems that the non-running public see the marathon as the pinnacle of running & some runners get caught up in that view too.
Given that we had ca. 5000 entrants that did not start again this year there is surely a driver to have a formal transfer window for entries that will otherwise go unused. A lot of those that miss out in the lottery would love to purchase some of those bibs that are not used on race day.
They've really made a mess of the registration process. This year, more than 25 percent of entrants didn't start the race with a similar rate last year. While a certain number of no-shows is expected, this percentage is far too high and suggests that the registration system is not fit for purpose. First and foremost, registering for a marathon a whole year in advance is too far out. Providing guaranteed entry to finishers within a two-day window immediately after the marathon is ridiculous. Most people will register to secure their spot for fear of missing out but will only decide to run much closer to the event. I’d like to see a return to a first-come, first-served and open registration in the spring like it used to be. The race would still sell out but at least people who really want to run it will get a place.
