Decision is based on safety grounds due to the heavy rain falling and due to continue for the day along with the high winds. We are disappointed to have to make this decision and understand people will be disappointed but we hope people understand and appreciate it is the correct decision. A new date will be set but due to congested fixture list, it will not be in the next few weeks".

Unfortunately we have had to cancel today's orienteering race on Rosskerrig mountain (Sheep's Head peninsula), because of gale force winds, sleet, and freezing temperatures. We're really disappointed to have to do this but it is in everyone's safety. Hopefully we can re-stage this race in the summer. Rob McEvoy, Cork Orienteers"

Drove down from Charleville for the Cobh race. The weather was bad all the way down but once you got onto the great island by belvelly bridge it was obvious it would have been crazy to run the race. Organisers did the right thing. It would have been a futile exercise running today.
Hopefully it will be re run soon with better weather conditions .On my way home from cobh this morning trees floods potholes chunks of road on run route. A bridge flooded was lucky to get out of cobh. It was the right decision . there is no way runners would have manouvered those road conditions without some injury.
any chance the organisers could have put a note up on the website cancelling the event..saving foks who were brave enough to travel there, the bother? This weather was predicted the night before in fairness. I seem to remember the Clonakilty race organisers getting slated for this...
My sympathies to the organisers, for the logistical nightmare of having everything organized and cancelling at the last minute etc., but I agree that they should have cancelled it earlier.
still nothing on their website- poor form- my sympathies about their predicament- but some information would be welcome
Everyone knew that Met Eireann had issued a serious weather warning on Friday and Saturday, for all day Sunday for the south of Ireland. The organisers should have made the call on Saturday. Mallow Ladies GAA made the call to postpone their 5k, planned for Sunday, on Saturday afternoon.
