Race Notice...Great Island 10 Mile Road Race - Sun 15th Apr 2012
The Great Island 10 mile road race in Cobh is the next big road race in Cork. Starting at 10:30am on Sunday, the 15th of April 2012, this race is sure to attract a large turnout. Last year, they got around 400 runners and it's likely that they will get a similar if not larger number this year.
All proceeds from the race go to the Irish Cancer Society. You can enter online HERE or by post for €15. It costs €20 on the day.
The race website is HERE. Full preview just before the event.

Good value, so if clubs like this can run ten mile road races why are we seeing so many half marathons charging € 45 and € 50 euros ? Even allowing for costs of T shirts, there is a huge difference.
Given the cost of petrol, high entry fees are becoming a serious issue for many.
got my number. presumed that it would be chip timed but the absence of a chip would lead me to assume it isn't. will this b a problem for the organisers getting the times right? my number is in the 600's so i take it a lot of people will be doing this one !!!!
Chip timing can take up a large percentage of an entry fee. The start of the race is on a wide road so there should be no real delay at the start.
Any well organised 10 mile race with 600 entries should have no need for chip timing.
Gearoid, I presume that you have also contacted these organisers of expensive races rather than assuming that they are going to read your message of complaint here on this blog...
This post is about the Great Island 10. I'm not going to start a big debate about the merits of entry fees.
