Preview of the 'Streets of Cobh' 5 km Road Race - Fri 8th Aug 2008 (7:15pm)
Registration...This takes place in the scout hall which is just behind the large car park which is behind the catheral in Cobh. Refreshments and prizegiving take place in the same hall. This car park is the best place to park as there is no real point parking down near the waterfront.
Course details...The start point is down next to the waterfront. This race is basically 2 laps of the roads next to and above the railway station in Cobh. The finish point is outside the Commodore Hotel. The course is pretty flat although there is a slight uphill section near the 1 mile mark and a steep downhill section near the Commodore Hotel which can be a bit rough on the knees. There is one bad section at the end of this hill on the 1st lap when you have to turn a very sharp corner and you lose all of your forward momentum. I have to admit that it is not my favourite course. I prefer the more rural courses and courses without sharp bends and corners but that's just a personal opinion.
