East Cork AC win Masters National Road Relay Championships - 24th Apr 2022

The National Road Relay Championships were held in Raheny in Dublin on Sunday the 24th of April 2022. The course consists of a 1-mile loop with participants doing various legs.

East Cork AC finished first team in the Men's O35 Masters category with a combined time for 4 laps of 19m 28s, 14 seconds ahead of their rivals in second place.

Stephen O'Brien did the first lap (1-mile) in 4m 52s, James McCarthy did two laps in 14m 56s which is an average for 4:52 for each of the two miles and Kevin O'Brien did the final leg in 4m 52s.

Leevale AC win the National Road Relay Championships in Dublin...Sun 17th Apr 2016

The National Road Relay Championships were held last Sunday in Raheny in Dublin. The course was on a one mile loop in a suburban area with the teams broken down as follows....Senior men covering 2m / 1m / 3m / 2m and the rest - Senior Women, Masters Men and Masters Women covering 1m / 2m / 1m.

In the Senior Women's Relay race, the Leevale AC team of Carol Finn, Lizzie Lee and Michelle Finn from Cork took the title.

4 Club Leevale A.C. (2)...Andrea Bickerdike, Sinead O'Connor, Rhona Pierce

As you can see from the times above, Carol ran the first mile in 5 min 11 sec, Lizzie ran two 5m 19s miles back to back while Michelle ran a 5m 01s mile which was all the more impressive when you consider that she ran two races the day before! On Saturday, Michelle was in action at the Irish University Championships where she ran a sub 10 minute 3000m steeplechase race followed by the final leg of a 4 x 400m relay race just three hours later.

In the Masters women's section, there were no teams from Munster.

In the Senior Men's Relay, East Cork AC finished 6th and Leevale AC 11th.

Cork teams do well at National Road Championships...Sun 19th Apr 2015

The Athletics Ireland National Road Relay Championships were held on Sunday, 19th of April in Raheny, Dublin. Each team had three members and ran the following distances...

The M35+, M50+ and senior women ran 1 mile x 2mile and 1 mile legs while the senior men ran 2 mile x 1 mile x 3 mile and 2 mile legs.

In the senior womens event, Leevale AC from Cork took the team title. The team was comprised of sisters Carol and Michelle Finn and team mate Lizzie Lee.

As you can see from the times below, Carol Finn put them into an early lead that they never lost.

In the Master mens M50 team event, St.Finbarr's AC from Cork took silver. The team was made up on Michael Murphy (1m), Cathal O'Connell (2m) and Ken Devine (1m).

In the first leg, Michael Murphy finished the 1st leg in 3rd place some 13 seconds behind the second placed man. In the second leg, Cathal O'Connell reduced that deficit to just one second. In the final leg, Ken Devine brought the Barr's team up to second place and just 6 seconds adrift from the winning team.
