Thomas Barr closes off season with another sub 50s 400m hurdle race in Zurich

Following his spectacular 4th place finish in the 400m hurdles Olympic final, Thomas Barr finished off his season on Thursday night with another sub 50 second time at a Diamond League competition in Zurich.

Thomas Barr sets new national record in 400m hurdles in Rome...


Thomas Barr of Ferrybank AC in Waterford set a new national record in the 400m hurdles when he ran 48.65 seconds in a Diamond League race in Rome on Thurs 4th June 2015. This time broke his old national record of 48.90 seconds and he is currently one of the fastest Europeans on the circuit.

As you can see from the top 5 Irish times below, he is well ahead of the rest...

Thomas Barr finishes 3rd in Diamond League meet in Doha


Thomas Barr of Ferrybank AC was in action in his first Diamond League meet in Doha earlier this evening and finished an impressive 3rd. His time of 48.99 seconds in the 400m hurdles was just nine one-hundredths of a second outside his personal best and Irish national record of 48.90s which he set in June of 2014.

Watch out for Tom Barr in lane 7 in the yellow singlet and his incredible finish...

Mark English finishes 2nd in prestigious Diamond League race

Mark English from Donegal is currently the best Irish athlete over 800m in the country. In a high profile IAAF Diamond League race in New York last Saturday, Mark finished in second place to none other than the Olympic champions and world record holder David Rudisha.

Irish 800m record holder Rose-Anne Galligan runs 2:02.42 in Doha..

One of the IAAF Diamond League competitions was held last night in Doha (Fri 9th May 2014). The Irish 800m record holder Rose-Anne Galligan was in action in the womens 800m race and she finished in 10th place with a time of 2:02.42. Her personal best and Irish record is 2:00.58 which she set in July 2013.

Usain Bolt wins Diamond League 100m race in Zurich in 9.90 seconds

After an awful start, the world record holder and Olympic champion Usain Bolt managed to stay ahead of the rest of the field to take first place in the mens 100m at the Diamond League event in Zurich this evening.

Usain Bolt runs 19.79s for 200m in Paris

At the Diamond League meeting in Paris this evening, the Olympic champion Usain Bolt won the 200m in a time of 19.73 seconds, the fastest time in the world for 2013. This was Bolt's second race over the distance having clocked 19.79 in Oslo, Norway on the 13th of June.

In a post race interview, he said..."I'm happy with myself but I still need to work on a few mistakes."

Bolt's main rival in the upcoming World Championships in Moscow will be Tyson Gay who won the recent US trials in a time of 19.74s. Bolt's compatriot and Olympic Silver medalist Yohan Blake will not be contesting the 200m in the World Championships as he missed the Jamaican trials due to a hamstring injury.
