Michelle Finn of Leevale AC named Cork City Sports athlete of Nov 2014
The award for the Cork City Sports athlete for the month of November goes to Michelle Finn of Leevale AC. Michelle fnished 2nd in the senior women’s National Inter Counties Cross Country Championship held at Dundalk IT on November 23rd. That performance secured Michelle a place on the Irish team for the European Cross Country championships held in Bulgaria last week in which the Irish team finished third.

Scott Gibson of Bandon AC is the Cork City Sports Athlete of the month for Sept 2014
Scott Gibson of Bandon AC has been awarded the Cork City Sports Athletics Person of the Month for September 2014. 17 year old Scott was part of the Bandon AC team that traveled to the Group B European Champion Clubs Cup Track & Field juniors competition in Leiria in Portugal back in September. Bandon AC were the only Irish team taking part and Scott won the 400m race.

Phil Healy of Bandon AC awarded Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month for June 2014
At an award ceremony in the River Lee Hotel in Cork City today, Phil Healy from Bandon AC was presented with the Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month award for June 2014. Phil is just 19 years old and is already one of the top sprinters in the country having finished joint first in the womens 100m at the recent Irish Senior Track & Field Championships in Dublin.
From the Cork City Sports........On the 14th June at the EAP event in Geneva Phil Healy ran a personal best time of 11.53 in the 100m which was a qualified her for selection on the Irish team for the European T&F Championships to be held in Zurich in August.
Also in June Phil ran a very solid final leg for the Irish women’s 4X100m relay team at the European Team competition in Estonia. Subsequently Phil has had a very busy few weeks in July. After winning both the 100m and 200m National Under 23 titles at Cork IT track she ran a lifetime best of 11:36 to finish 2nd after a photo finish in the 100m at the Cork City Sports and after another photo finish at the National Senior Championships in Dublin Phil and Amy Foster could not be separated for the gold medal.

Mark Hanrahan of Leevale AC wins Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month award
At a recent award ceremony, Mark Hanrahan of Leevale AC was presented with the Cork City Sports Athlete of the month award for April 2014. This was in recognition of his winning the Irish 10k championship title at the Great Ireland Run in the Phoenix Park earlier that month. Having also won the Irish 5000m track title in 2012, Mark completed the hilly 10km course in Dublin in a time of 30min 20sec to take the title.

Lizzie Lee and Claire McCarthy win Cork Sports Award for Sept & Oct
The recent achievements of two of Cork's best athletes were recognised today when they were awarded the Cork City Sports Athletics Award for September and October respectively.
In late September, Lizzie Lee of Leevale AC finished in 9th place in a time of 2:38:09 in the Berlin Marathon, one of the major marathons in the world.
In the recent Dublin Marathon, Claire McCarthy of Leevale AC finished in second place in a time of 2:39:37. This was over three minutes faster than her previous best of 2:43:15 which she set in Rotterdam last April.
Both athletes are coached by Donie Walsh of Leevale AC who represented Ireland in the marathon in the 1972 Munich Olympics.
