Results of the Cork Novice & Master Road Championships, Midleton - Sun 2nd Mar 2014

The Cork AAI Novice & Masters road championships were held in Midleton, East Cork on Sunday the 2nd of March with both men and women competing over a 4 mile course. The races were very well organised and it's a credit to the host club Midleton AC for doing such a fine job.

Results of the Cork AAI Intermediate X-Country - Sun 4th Dec 2011

Cold wintery conditions greeted the runners for this cross country race near Watergrasshill. The womens race over 4 kms was first with three St.Finbarr's athletes leading the field. It was all square at the front until the last lap when the eventual winner Martina Kiely pushed on to win by a large margin.

The mens race over 8 kms was more closely contested with Allen Whitaker of St.Finbarrs AC taking the title. Overall, St.Finbarrs went on to win both the mens and womens team prizes as well.

Results of the Cork AAI X-Country Race - Carrignavar - Sun 10th Oct 2010

This Cross Country race in Carrignavar was the U23, Novice & Masters Championships. Both the mens and ladies race took place over a challenging route with a few nice drags to test the stamina.

Cork County Athletics Board issue statement regarding the Bay Run and other races...

As many of you will have noticed, the previous post which was an article by David O'Dwyer regarding the price of races has attracted a good few comments. In the meantime, the Cork County Athletics Board have issued the following statement regarding commercial races.....

March 31 – County Board Notice regarding The Bay Run and other races without AAI permits

The Bay Run Half Marathon (Glengarriff to Bantry) takes place on May 2^nd 2010.  This race does NOT have an Athletics Ireland permit.  Cork County Board was not approached directly or indirectly via a Cork club regarding this event.  The Board is requesting that all Cork clubs advise their athletes not to support or participate in this event or any other athletics event that does not have a permit from Athletics Ireland.

Organisers of road races and athletic events (Open Sports etc.) in Cork must apply for an Athletics Ireland permit at least 4 months in advance via the Cork County Board. Permit application forms are available by contacting the Secretary at corkaaipro@gmail.com

Results of the Cork AAI Senior Cross Country Races - Sun 14th Dec 2008

The Cork County Cross Country Championships took place last Sunday, the 14th of December on what was a bright but cold day in Watergrasshill. The Senior Mens race was won by Mark Hanrahan of Leevale AC with Rhona Lynch of Eagle AC winning in the Ladies Senior event. The Junior mens event was won by Ronan Duggan of Bandon AC.

Results of the Cork County Intermediate & Masters Cross Country...16th Nov 2008

These Cross Country races took place in the Clonakilty Showgrounds on what was a mild day. For the men, the course was 8 laps of a roughly 1km loop....i.e. 8 kms, although a few GPS watches later suggested it might have been a little closer to 9kms! ;o)

As you would expect at this time of year, there was a few muddy patches although overall, the ground was pretty firm, even a little bit too stony and hard in places.

Upcoming event....Sun 16th Nov...AAI Cork Intermediate & Masters Cross Country
The AAI Cork Intermediate and Masters (O35) Cross Country championships will take place next Sunday, the 16th of November at the Showgrounds in Clonakilty, Co. Cork. I presume it will be signposted from the main road into the town.



The first race takes place at 12 noon. The closing date for entries is Wednesday, the 12th of November so if you are interested and you are a member of an AAI registered club, contact one of the officials in your club asap.
