Just under 13,000 runners took part in this years Dublin City Marathon, an increase of about 2.7% on the figure for last year. As you can see from the graph below, the numbers have been creeping upwards for the last few years. With the centenary of the 1916 Rising next year and the introduction of a Sunday fixture, it looks likely next year will be the biggest yet.
The event also doubled up as the National Marathon Championships. From a Cork point of view, Colin Merritt of Carraig na bhFear finished 6th and the 3rd M40. Cathal O'Connell of St.Finbarr's AC finished 2nd M50. These are the top Irish results:

Possibly one of the most remarkable stories of the day was how a cardiac nurse who was running the marathon just happened to come across a woman who had collapsed and how he saved her life.

Fantastic atmosphere in Dublin from Start to finish. Was expecting a few hills but being honest I was very surprised how tough mile 18 to 22 was. I had been going well up until that and two quick hills in succession caused an unfortunate injury. I would think it is a tougher test that the Cork Marathon. The few hills in Cork are generally gradual hills where these ones in Dublin were testing. Wonder did anyone else think the same.
