The Cork BHAA UCC 10k road race is on Sunday the 30th of March at 11am. Please note that the start point for the race has changed...
Instead of the usual start on the hill in Sundays Well, it is now on Mardyke Walk outside the stadium. Other than that, the route remains the same....out the Lee road...past the Anglers Rest...and in the Straight Road to finish near the County Hall.

much better start area way safer than the other start although I will miss the fast start down the hill but this area is way safer for us runners
Way safer?? Sunday's Well isn't that dodgy! You will be running on the Northside for 3+ miles. Hope you survive it
What is it about these comments about "safety for runners" and "health and safety for runners" that appear all the time. if you feel your life is endangered by the presence of people running past you or beside you or behind you then don't enter. As far as I know no one has been trampled to death yet in a road race. It's hardly extreme sport ;-)
Agree with first post. Much safer start position. And it has nothing to do with the side of the river it starts on....think road safety....the old start line was tricky to coordinate.
I think poster was referring to traffic as Sundays we'll was a very dangerous start too much traffic at a very narrow start area
Such a pity (for the married male part of the population) that this is on Mother's day. I'd have loved to have run it again this year, but I think of all the days not to run, this is it. It'll be interesting to see the participation breakdown by gender for this race, maybe by age category. I'd say the M40 could be down a few?
Re. Trampling to death comment. Last year the start of this race almost ended in disaster. One runner decided to saunter across the road in front of the sub 6 runners. There were collisions a few almost fell going downhill. With 400 runners behind them...
I was at the same race last year. it went very well on the whole. less drama , please
I agree with the comment re "don't run if you feel your life is in danger". The organisation or where it starts, whether on a hill, up or down, or even on the flat, has nothing to do with the safety or lack of safety to runners. It's the idiots who take off like they've been released from a trap, and have no consideration of others around them cause the safety issues. Any race, no matter where it is, has these issues and it's the runners cause it, not the organisers, not the starting point. Elbows out and mind yourself!
