Looking ahead to races coming up in Cork and elsewhere...

We are getting to a stage now where the evenings are drawing in and the number of short races are coming to an end. This week on Thursday evening the 28th of August, we have the last race of the Ballycotton Summer Series with a 5 mile road race in Ballycotton itself at 7:30pm. I'll preview that race here on Wednesday morning. After that, the last evening road race of the season is the Cork BHAA 5km in Togher next week on the 3rd of September. That's really the end of the short races for the moment because that, the month of September is taken up with long races.

7th Sept...National Half Marathon in Waterford. The closing date for teams for this one is this Wednesday, the 24th of August. You can get an application form HERE . For more information contact Des Colbert on 086-1024841 or Derek Grant on 087-2893485

14th Sept...Cork Half Marathon. St.Finbarrs AC are hosting their annual Half Marathon in Blarney on the 14th. You can find an application form HERE. Note that the entry fee is €25 but if you enter before Sat 6th of Sept, the fee is €20. You can also enter online at http://www.activeeurope.com/

5th Oct...Cork BHAA 'Cork to Cobh' 15 mile. The closing date for this one is still some bit off. It's €15 before the 26th of September. You can get an entry form HERE.

27th October...Dublin City Marathon. Perhaps a few of you are thinking about doing this? Note that it currently costs €70 to enter. After the 1st of September, it will cost €80. You can get more details on the Dublin City Marathon website.

"I'm hoping to do the final Ballycotton 5 this Thurs, was just wondering if the plaques for competing in all four races are presented afterwards? It's my first time participating in this series, it's been really enjoyable. It's handy to get a heads up on the course(especially the difficult parts), so all the information you have put up on your blog has been extremely helpful and I extend my gratitude. "If you have completed all 4 races in the Ballycotton Series, you will recieve your plaque at the end of the race on Thursday evening. There should be someone just after the finish line handing them out. For anyone qualifying for a Top 50 T-Shirt (men)(Top 10?15? for women), you will have to go to the hall to collect them around 9pm......John Desmond.
